Job description

Job Summary:

The GIS Intern at Nsight will assist with GIS and mapping projects, including updating records related to outside plant projects and supporting the engineering and management teams with various tasks. Responsibilities include data acquisition, maintenance, and production using GIS tools, as well as creating static and web maps. Ideal candidates are pursuing a degree in geography or a technical discipline, with knowledge of GIS tools, Web GIS concepts, and utility construction methods.

Responsibilities & Duties:

- Assist with data acquisition using GNSS receivers and importing data from various sources.

- Maintain and update GIS data using construction and engineering documents to ensure accuracy.

- Utilize GIS tools for data production, including spatial analysis, data management, and conversions.

- Create both static and web maps to support ongoing projects.

- Support engineering and management teams with record-keeping and mapping for outside plant projects.

- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a BS in geography, engineering, or other technical discipline.
  • General knowledge of ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Google Earth, open-source GIS products, etc.
  • Familiarity with Web GIS concepts: services, maps, portals.
  • General understanding of industry standards for outside plant construction, engineering, record keeping.
  • Understanding of basic utility construction methodology.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

An individual who is detail-oriented, technically proficient in GIS tools, and passionate about telecommunications and community service would excel in this role.
