Gig Server information

What is a gig server?

A gig server is a hospitality worker who is hired on a temporary or per-event basis to serve food and beverages at events such as weddings, parties, banquets, or conferences. Unlike full-time servers who work regular shifts at a restaurant or catering company, gig servers typically find work through staffing agencies or gig platforms and may work at different locations for each job. Their responsibilities can include setting up tables, serving guests, clearing dishes, and ensuring high-quality customer service during the event. Gig servers benefit from flexible schedules and the opportunity to gain experience in various venues, but their income and hours can be inconsistent.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a gig server?

To thrive as a Gig Server, you need strong customer service abilities, multitasking skills, and basic knowledge of food and beverage service, often gained through on-the-job training rather than formal qualifications. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and adherence to food safety regulations are commonly required. Excellent communication, a positive attitude, and adaptability help you stand out when interacting with diverse guests and working in fast-paced environments. These skills ensure efficient, friendly service and customer satisfaction, which are crucial for success in the hospitality industry.

What are some common challenges faced by gig servers, and how can they effectively manage them?

Gig servers often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new venues, learning different menus, and managing varying team dynamics with each assignment. To handle these effectively, it helps to maintain strong communication skills, arrive early to familiarize yourself with the environment, and stay organized with essential tools like pens and notepads. Building a reputation for reliability and flexibility can also lead to more opportunities and repeat gigs from staffing agencies or event organizers.

Gig Servers and Event Servers often share similar credentials and work environments, but Gig Servers typically work on a freelance basis across various venues, while Event Servers are usually employed for specific events like festivals or conferences. Both roles require food handling permits and are common in the hospitality industry, but their work settings and job structures differ.

What are common gig server jobs?

Gig server jobs typically include roles such as food delivery drivers, event servers, bartenders, and temporary restaurant staff. These positions often require good customer service skills, a valid driver's license or certification, and flexible scheduling. Many gig servers work independently or through staffing platforms, handling short-term or on-demand assignments.

We’re looking for a refined, service-driven professionals for casual gig work as a server.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in the details, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and believes that true hospitality is about care, connection, and anticipation.

Fine dining experience is a plus, but not required — what matters most is a genuine passion for creating memorable guest experiences, a commitment to teamwork, and an ability to work proactively and efficiently.

About the Role

Servers at our restaurant play an integral role in delivering a seamless and elevated service experience.

  • Supporting all aspects of service, including, but not limited to, hosting, running, bussing, and polishing.

  • Managing guest flow and collaborating with the team to ensure smooth, attentive service.

  • Upholding our standards of presentation, pace, and professionalism during every shift.

This is a hands-on, high-energy environment where precision, communication, and teamwork define success.

What We Value

  • A natural sense of hospitality and empathy — someone who anticipates needs and makes every guest feel genuinely cared for.

  • The ability to stay composed and focused in a lively, high-volume setting.

  • A collaborative spirit and willingness to support every aspect of the guest experience.

  • Pride in the craft of service, from the smallest detail to the grandest gesture.

We’re looking for professionals who see hospitality as more than a job — it’s a calling, a craft, and a way to connect with people through genuine care and intention.

If you bring warmth, grace, and dedication to your work, and thrive as part of a team that shares those values, we’d love to meet you.
