Job description

Position Summary:

The Gift Shop Assistant is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all functions of the Gift Shop, including the scheduling of volunteers. The Gift Shop Assistant is also responsible for assisting with all social events sponsored by the Auxiliary. The Gift Shop Assistant will be required to work set scheduled hours determined by the Auxiliary.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1.      Responsible for displaying and marketing gift shop merchandise.

2.      May be required to attend market and gift shows to purchase inventory to sell in the Gift Shop as determined by the Gift Shop Committee Co-chairs.

3.      Negotiates prices for merchandise with various vendors.

4.      Responsible for receiving, unpacking, pricing and storing gift shop merchandise per vendor policy

5.      Responsible for reconciling all invoices with orders and returns damaged merchandise per vendor policy.

6.      Ensures all invoices are accurate and forwards to Gift Shop Committee Co-Chairs for payment.

7.      Responsible to manage cash flow in cash register to ensure that appropriate monies are available for cashiers and makes daily deposits.

8.      Responsible for scheduling all shifts with volunteers on a monthly basis and providing training to all volunteers who volunteer in the Gift Shop on daily procedures.

9.      Responsible to conduct annual inventory of all Gift Shop Merchandise.

10.  Responsible for assisting with yearly budget and monthly review of accounting reports with the Gift Shop Committee Co-Chairs.

11.  Exercises discretion and uses good judgement in working with the volunteers and flexibility in performing the varied job activities.

12.  Assists with all special events sponsored by the Auxiliary.

13.  Maintains the Gift Shop appearance including cleanliness

14.  Participates in performance improvement activities.

15.  Performs other related duties as required and directed.

16.  Gift Shop Assistant and Gift Shop Co-Chairpersons or Gift Shop Committee, shall be permitted to purchase inventory for the Gift Shop and meet with vendors, along with Gift Shop Assistant.

Qualifications:  

            Required:

         High School Diploma or equivalent

         Must have a minimum of one year working experience in retail management and buying or related area.

         Must have the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with leadership, patients, visitors, volunteers, other employees, and the general public.

Preferred:

         Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

         Must possess general clerical skills and ability to operate standard office equipment

         Effective verbal and written communication skills

         Ability to cover volunteer shifts when necessary in the Gift Shop

         Attendance is an essential element of this position

Position Specific Expectations:

         Personal contact with various Medical Center Employees

         Must be physically capable of performing Job Responsibilities with or without accommodation
