Position Overview:

The Gift Shop Supervisor & E-Commerce Associate plays a key role in delivering an exceptional retail experience at the Basin St. Station Gift Shop. Reporting to the Director of Tours and Retail, this position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of gift shop staff and operations, maintaining floor and inventory standards, and managing the shop’s online retail presence. The ideal candidate is organized, self-directed, and comfortable working across both in-person retail and digital commerce environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

Shop Operations

  • Oversee daily opening and closing procedures, ensuring the shop is fully prepared for business and properly secured at close.
  • Maintain floor standards including merchandise presentation, stocking, labeling, and display organization.
  • Process retail sales transactions accurately using the POS system and cover Desk Agent stations as needed.
  • Receive and process incoming inventory shipments; verify against invoices, enter into the system, and ensure accurate labeling.
  • Monitor and audit supply and inventory levels; flag discrepancies and submit reorder requests in a timely manner.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise Gift Shop associates during assigned shifts, managing task assignments and ensuring performance standards are met.
  • Assist in scheduling; identify coverage gaps and coordinate with the Gift Shop Manager to resolve them.
  • Provide coaching and corrective feedback to staff; document performance issues and escalate HR concerns as appropriate.
  • Onboard new hires on shop procedures, POS operation, and policies; ensure completion of required documentation.
  • Submit written incident reports for guest complaints, workplace conflicts, or safety and security concerns on the day they occur.

E-Commerce & Digital Content

  • Photograph merchandise for online listings using consistent staging and lighting standards.
  • Write product descriptions in alignment with brand voice and upload listings to Shopify (FrenchQuarter.com).
  • Maintain and organize product collections, tags, and inventory within the online store; flag items needing updates or removal.
  • Repurpose product imagery for social media use as directed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming shop environment; report hazards to building management and the Gift Shop Manager promptly.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Gift Shop Manager.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of retail, customer service, or hospitality experience; prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional and composed demeanor.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and iOS devices; experience with Shopify or similar e-commerce platforms a plus.
  • Basic product photography skills and familiarity with photo editing tools preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
