Job description

The Salvation Army Midland Divisional Headquarters located in St. Louis, Missouri, is looking fora Director of Gift & Estate Planning.This individual will beresponsible for the promotion, development and securing of planned gifts within the assigned service area in Midland Division.

This is a Full-Time, Exempt position, 40 hours per week, pay is based on experience.

We are located at 1130 Hampton Ave St. Louis, Missouri 63139.

Essential Functions

  1. Solicit and secure deferred gifts from prospects and donors for Salvation Army services within Salvation Army policies applying working knowledge of legal and tax consequence of charitable giving and explanation of the various gift plans.
  2. Work with planned giving director to establish annual goals and objectives.
  3. Develop and implement cultivation and ongoing stewardship of prospective and current donors utilizing moves management.
  4. Identify and qualify donor/prospects and build planned giving committees working with corps officers, key volunteers, council members, community professionals...
  5. Prepare deferred giving proposals for prospects, attorneys, donors...
  6. Utilizing marketing plan using direct mail, newsletters, targeted mailings working with directives as provided by THQ.
  7. Perform public speaking opportunities to both the professional communities and the general public, e.g., basic estate and wills seminars.
  8. Assure all electronic data regarding donor/prospect file information and gift production information is processed accurately and in coordination with the Midland Planned Giving Department.
  9. Work with major gifts officers in cultivating and stewarding shared donor assignments.
  10. Actively participant in development department meetings and activities as needed.
  11. Enhance professional development through personal study and attending educational opportunities.
  12. Maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe from Harm guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years proven experience in development/related field with comprehensive knowledge in planned giving. Combination of training and experience will be considered. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Requires working knowledge and skill in computer software applications to including word processing, spreadsheet, database and e-mail. Must be a team player, self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Ability to work under pressure and deadlines. Capable and willingness to travel, sometimes for consecutive days. Must have a valid drivers' license and pass TSA MVR check.

Physical and Working Conditions

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. Work will be done on the road as well as in a climate-controlled office.

Employee Status

Full-time: Normal work hours will be determined by supervisor, however working additional hours including some weekends may be required.
