Job description

Description
The Middlebury German Summer School (Middlebury campus/ Vermont) is hiring for a Germany/ Austria/ Switzerland-based German Theater Director for their Summer 2021 session (06/24/2021- 08/13/2021).
This position is sponsored by the Max Kade Foundation in New York and is well-suited for young directors with a special interest in a "German as a foreign language" project.
Middlebury's German Summer Language School is a summer university program, attracting students from all over the world to spend seven weeks in our exclusive Language Pledge-based immersion environment to study the German language and culture in depth. Daily intensive in-class instruction and co-curricular programing support and reinforce our immersion environment and success, and the German-language theater project is an essential part of our co-curricular offerings. Participants come from all levels of language-learning, ranging from novice learners of the language to near-native speakers and are not professional actors.
Our 2021 theater project can go ahead in person under the following conditions:
  • Student-actors and production team must wear masks at all times
  • All work needs to be compatible with social distancing, ventilation, and maximum capacity guidelines
  • The play cannot be longer than 60 minutes
  • The play needs to be written in German (no translations or adaptations), needs to be chosen in consultation with the School's directors
  • Tech, stage design and costuming support available

In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided. Insurance is available. Travel- and visa expenses are factored into the honorarium.
