What is geriatric telemedicine?

A Geriatric Telemedicine job involves providing remote healthcare services to elderly patients using digital communication technologies. Professionals in this role assess, diagnose, and manage age-related health conditions through virtual consultations. They collaborate with caregivers and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive patient care. This role is essential for improving healthcare access for seniors, particularly those with mobility challenges or living in remote areas.

What skills and qualifications are needed for geriatric telemedicine?

To thrive in Geriatric Telemedicine, you need a strong background in geriatric care, current medical licensure, and experience in telehealth platforms. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), secure video conferencing systems, and remote patient monitoring tools is essential. Exceptional communication skills, patience, and cultural sensitivity set candidates apart in this field. These competencies are critical for delivering high-quality, accessible care to older adults while effectively navigating virtual healthcare environments.

To address these challenges, practitioners frequently collaborate with caregivers, utilize user-friendly telehealth platforms, and participate in ongoing training to stay abreast of best practices in virtual care. Being proactive and patient-focused helps ensure optimal outcomes and positive patient experiences in the telemedicine setting.

Job description

Psychiatrist (MD/DO) – Geriatric Behavioral Health & Clinical SupervisionFlexible Part-Time Role | Remote + Field-Based | Ventura County & Los Angeles

Strong preference for Psychiatrists based in Ventura County or Los Angeles, though qualified candidates from other locations will be considered.

Access Healthcare Associates (AHA), in partnership with Brigade Health, is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Psychiatrist to support the behavioral health needs of older adults in assisted living, memory care, and senior living communities throughout Ventura County and Los Angeles.

Since 2007, AHA has been a pioneer in mobile senior-focused healthcare, delivering compassionate, patient-centered care directly to seniors where they live. This unique role combines psychiatric consultation, collaborative physician supervision, telemedicine support, and periodic in-person rounding, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact without the demands of a traditional high-volume practice.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as a collaborating and supervising Psychiatrist for Geri-Psych Providers and other clinicians.
  • Provide clinical consultation and support for complex geriatric behavioral health cases, including dementia-related behaviors, depression, anxiety, and psychotropic medication management.
  • Be available for provider questions, clinical guidance, and urgent telemedicine consultations as needed.
  • Conduct regular interdisciplinary case reviews and educational discussions with providers.
  • Participate in in-person rounding approximately one day per week alongside clinical team members across partner communities.
  • Evaluate a subset of patients directly through in-person visits and telepsychiatry consultations.
  • Maintain physician visibility and engagement across senior living communities throughout Ventura County and Los Angeles.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, assisted living staff, primary care providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Contribute to program development, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical leadership opportunities.
Qualifications
  • MD or DO with successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Active, unrestricted California medical license.
  • Experience working with geriatric populations, dementia care, assisted living, memory care, or senior behavioral health strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentorship skills.
  • Comfort with both telemedicine and community-based clinical care.
Schedule & Practice Model
  • Flexible part-time schedule with an anticipated commitment of 10-12 hours per week.
  • Hybrid model combining:
    • Remote clinical consultation
    • Telepsychiatry visits
    • Supervisory responsibilities
    • In-person rounding and community visits
  • Low patient volume with a focus on consultation, collaboration, and quality care.
  • Opportunity to maintain meaningful clinical involvement without managing a traditional full-time patient panel.
Why Access Healthcare Associates?
  • Join an organization dedicated to serving seniors through innovative, patient-centered care since 2007.
  • Flexible schedule designed for work-life balance.
  • Hybrid remote and field-based practice model.
  • Collaborative environment with experienced Nurse Practitioners and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Opportunities for leadership, mentorship, and program development.
  • Meaningful impact on behavioral health outcomes for seniors in assisted living and memory care settings.
  • Build relationships with providers, communities, patients, and families across the region.
