Job description

We are looking to add a Geotechnical Project Engineer to our Virginia team. Join us in supporting diverse transportation, transit, and environmental projects such as highway and rail bridges, buildings, retaining walls, slopes, pavements, ground treatment of soft soils and subgrades, and utilities. Ideal candidates possess VDOT and Virginia municipal experience, proactive problem-solving skills, a solid grasp of geotechnical principles, and hands-on expertise in geotechnical/pavement design and field operations. You'll collaborate across disciplines, helping to prepare plans and reports for various geotechnical and pavement projects, supervising field investigations, performing design computations, and writing reports and offering recommendations. This role offers the opportunity to partner with an industry leader, fostering unparalleled growth and career advancement.
Essential Functions
  • Assist our geotechnical/pavement design and engineering group throughout Virginia with development and delivery of geotechnical assignments
  • Assist with client relations to secure future clients and workload
  • Foster innovative design concepts related to Geotechnical Engineering to enhance project efficiency
  • Serve as Project Engineer on a variety of geotechnical related projects
  • Prepare task proposals
  • Develop and oversee subsurface exploration programs
  • Prepare design calculations and geotechnical engineering reports
  • Aid in producing construction documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and firm

Required Skills and Experience
  • Passion for client service and engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 5 to 10 years of Geotechnical Design Experience (VDOT experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of VDOT Geotechnical and Pavement MOI's and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification
  • Understanding of the following software: Microsoft Office, gINT, LPile, APile, MSEW, Slide, Settle 3, Slope/w, AASHTOWare Pavement ME, GRLWEAP
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • MS or advanced degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineer License is preferred, Virginia preferred, ability to obtain VA PE required within 6-months
