Job Description:
Schnabel Engineering is seeking an Entry-Level Engineer to join our growing practice in Michigan, ideally located in the Grand Rapids and/or Lansing, MI areas. We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in developing both field and analytical skills, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Work with project teams on civil, geotechnical, geological, or mining engineering projects that involve CAD design, construction oversight, field work, data evaluation, engineering analysis and report preparation
  • Assist in planning and performing geotechnical investigations and analyses
  • Assist in preparation of reports, plans, and specifications
  • Observe and log soil borings and/or rock cores
  • Conduct field assignments, such as site mapping
  • Observe construction and perform materials testing, when needed. Material testing could include concrete testing, soil compaction, etc.
  • Assist in performing field inspections
  • Assist in performing analyses and design calculations

Required Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering or equivalency
  • Detailed oriented with strong analytical skill and a positive attitude as well as the ability to work both independently and on teams
  • A willingness to perform a variety of assignments on short notice is valuable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to excel in a hybrid work environment
  • It is also beneficial to be comfortable in remote settings, with a can-do attitude, and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment and satisfy project demands
  • Desire and willingness to work outdoors and travel within Michigan and nationwide. Occasional travel to our current Michigan offices in Gladstone and Marquette will be required.
  • Engineer in Training with the ability to receive a Professional Engineering License within 4 years

Desired Skills/Experience:
  • Relevant internship experience
  • 1-4 years of relevant industry experience
  • Geotechnical exploration experience including drilling supervision, soil logging and classification
  • Strong computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and/or various engineering software

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening

The compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $95,693. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
