The Senior Software Developer will advance the capabilities of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) and Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (CNMOC) by developing, integrating, administering, and optimizing software applications and data platforms at NASA's Stennis Space Center. This position will support the design, development, and maintenance of mission-critical software solutions, data pipelines, data storage architectures, and analytics capabilities. Majority of tasking is performed on-site.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering/Data Science, or a related field.
  • Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain an Interim Secret Clearance prior to start.
  • 7-10+ years of experience with:
    • Algorithmic and software application development.
    • Structured programming development using Configuration Management (CM) tools such as Git or Subversion.
    • Python programming experience with an understanding of modern data processing libraries such as Polars and/or Pandas, Pydantic and related toolsets.
    • XML and JSON formats as well as interaction with libraries that support interaction with these formats.
    • Markdown, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript experience.
  • Understands data velocity, volume, variety, and veracity concepts.
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets in operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and database design principles.
  • Experienced with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help accelerate performance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Security+ Certification.
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes using programming skills.
  • Experience building and maintaining large-scale data ingestion, transformation, and analytics workflows.
  • Experience with data orchestration and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of data governance best practices.
  • Strong background in working with multi-parameter, time-based data series with preference towards Meteorology and Oceanography datasets.
  • Experienced in ESRI Technologies such as Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Pro / Desktop tools and ESRI Workflow Manager.
  • Experience withCybersecuritybest practicesandDISA STIGchecklists.
  • Experience with container technologies and cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of RDBMS databases such as PostgreSQL with PostGIS, SQL Server, or Oracle.
  • Experience in integrating geospatial data systems with enterprise data platforms and APIs such as NOAA's Environmental Research Division's Data Access (ERDDAP) platform.
