What is a remote AWS data engineer?

A Remote AWS Data Engineer is a professional who designs, builds, and maintains data pipelines and architectures using Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, while working remotely. They are responsible for tasks such as data ingestion, transformation, storage, and ensuring data quality and security. AWS Data Engineers often work with services like Amazon S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, and EMR to enable scalable and efficient data processing. Their role is crucial in helping organizations manage and analyze large datasets in the cloud. Working remotely allows them to collaborate with teams from different locations using online tools and platforms.

What is the difference between Remote Aws Data Engineer vs Remote Cloud Data Engineer?

Both roles involve data engineering but differ in platform expertise and certifications.

How does a remote AWS data engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams?

As a remote AWS Data Engineer, you'll often work closely with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to design and maintain scalable data pipelines in the cloud. Collaboration usually happens through virtual meetings, cloud-based project management tools, and shared documentation platforms. Clear communication and proactive updates are essential to ensure everyone stays aligned, especially when troubleshooting data issues or implementing new features. Building strong working relationships remotely can be challenging, but most organizations support this with regular check-ins and team collaboration channels.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote AWS data engineer?

To thrive as a Remote AWS Data Engineer, you need strong expertise in data engineering concepts, programming (such as Python or Scala), and experience with AWS cloud services like S3, Redshift, and Glue, typically supported by a relevant degree or AWS certification. Company Overview:

Blue Orange Digital is a boutique data & AI consultancy that delivers enterprise-grade results. We design and build modern data platforms, analytics, and ML/AI Agent solutions for midโ€‘market and enterprise clients across Private Equity, Financial Services, Healthcare, and Retail.

Our teams work with technologies like Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, and the broader Microsoft ecosystem to turn messy, real-world data into trustworthy, actionable insight.

Weโ€™re a builderโ€‘led, clientโ€‘first culture that prizes ownership, clear communication, and shipping highโ€‘impact work.

Position Overview:

This role is for an experienced, handsโ€‘on practitioner capable of designing and implementing performant and scalable data solutions, and optimizing data flow.

Experience:

5+ years of industry experience as a handsโ€‘on practitioner in Data Engineering.

Note: Please submit your resume in English, as all application materials must be in English for review and consideration.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and deploy robust data platforms, including data lakehouses and warehouses, and automate their operation using tools like Azure DevOps, Terraform, and CloudFormation.

  • Implement and optimize advanced ETL/ELT data pipelines and orchestrate complex data jobs using platforms like Databricks notebooks and dbt.

  • Design and maintain data models, potentially utilizing data virtualization tools like Cube.

  • Leverage managed and serverless cloud offerings to create performant and scalable cloudโ€‘native application solutions and data pipelines.

  • Apply best practices for data security and ensure compliance with governance requirements.

  • Build highโ€‘performance data pipelines and integrate with BI tools like Tableau, Looker, and Power BI.

  • Provide leadership in applying software development best practices, including CI/CD and managing Infrastructure as Code.

Key Requirements:
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL (TypeScript/JavaScript/Java a plus).

  • Proven experience with ETL/ELT implementation and data modeling for data warehouses/lakehouses.

Consulting & Communication:
  • Participate in customer engagement activities, clearly communicating technical concepts, design decisions, and project progress to stakeholders.

  • Effective communication and the ability to collaborate with both technical and nonโ€‘technical stakeholders.

What We Offer
  • Competitive base compensation with performance bonuses

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Work on diverse, high-impact engagements across industries

  • Direct access to leading-edge data and AI stacks (Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • Builder culture where analysts lead engagements and ship work, not slides

  • Professional development budget and certification support

  • Flexible remote work environment with a collaborative, high-talent team

Salary: $135,000 โ€“ $155,000 USD yearly
