Requirements Job Overview The Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI) is seeking a Research Analyst to join our small, high-impact team and contribute to critical research and policy initiatives.

KGI was established in 2024 to connect independent research with technology policy and design, with a focus on the online information environment. The Research Analyst will play a cross-functional role on the KGI team, synthesizing academic findings across disciplines, contributing to original research, and supporting KGI's work on online platforms and generative AI. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to widely disseminated research and policy communications at the intersection of technology, social science, law, computer science, and public policy.

The Research Analyst role is designed for an early career professional with a strong interest in technology policy and a desire to be deeply immersed in cross-disciplinary research and evidence. In addition to synthesizing published research, the Research Analyst will help craft KGI's policy communications for state, federal, and international audiences. The Research Analyst will also support the curation and organization of workshops, convenings, and conferences involving leading experts working at the intersection of technology, policy, and research.

Since its launch, KGI has produced influential research-backed analyses of platform governance, algorithmic design, competition in digital markets, and data access. Recent projects include the Better Feeds initiative on design of algorithmic recommender systems and evidence-based frameworks for platform design litigation and policy. The Research Analyst will contribute to these ongoing initiatives while helping to advance new research projects that inform actionable policy and industry design.

A successful candidate will have strong analytical and research skills with the ability to work across multiple projects. The ideal candidate will excel at research synthesis and collaboration. Applicants should submit a cover letter describing their experience and interest in this role.

Work Interactions The Research Analyst will report to the Associate Director and work collaboratively across KGI, including with KGI's Executive Director, Research Director, Senior Technologist, Policy Analyst, postdoctoral fellows, and students. A successful candidate will build connections with Georgetown colleagues and external researchers across multiple disciplines including law, computer science, communications, and public policy.

Requirements and Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in any field with coursework experience related to technology and policy * 3-5 years of relevant experience in research, data analysis, or a related area * Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information from multiple disciplines * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear research summaries and reports * Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesizing academic research * Demonstrated interest in technology research, including topics such as platform governance, algorithmic systems, or AI policy * Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and across disciplines * Proven ability to take initiative independently, advance multiple projects, and meet deadlines * Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn * Proficiency in Google Suite products and a quick learning curve to adapt to new programs Preferred qualifications: * Graduate degree in a field related to technology, social science, law, or public policy * Strong quantitative and/or qualitative research skills * Experience with qualitative analysis methods and/or statistical software (R, Python, Stata) * Familiarity with platform governance, algorithmic systems, or AI policy * Experience working on interdisciplinary research projects Work Mode Designation This position has been designated as Hybrid.
