Job Overview
Assistant Teacher, Georgetown Law Early Learning Center - Georgetown University. The Assistant Teacher creates a nurturing, responsive, and engaging learning environment; implements sound early childhood practices and developmentally appropriate activities, ensures healthy and safe spaces, and complies with Georgetown, OSSE, and other policies and regulations. This position is located, just a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol, on the campus of Georgetown Law.
Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Implements developmentally- and age-appropriate education activities and nurturing care
  • Creates and maintains a safe and healthy environment
  • Builds relationships with families
  • Works collaboratively as a member of the GLELC team.
  • Complies with statutory, regulatory, licensing, and policy requirements

Work Interactions
Georgetown Law Early Learning Center (GLELC) helps to support the University's mission by addressing the need for the early education and care of the young children of faculty, staff, and students.
This position reports to the Director of Georgetown Law Early Learning Center. The position also interacts with university families that include student, faculty, and staff, alumni, and enrolled families from the greater metropolitan community.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA); OR
  • Associate degree (or higher) in any subject area; OR
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and completion of at least 60 credit hours in any subject area; OR
  • High school diploma and a State-awarded certificate comparable to a CDA that is approved by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE)
  • Work collaboratively in a team and independently; build positive relationships; communicate clearly and effectively; demonstrate flexibility and reliability; exhibit respect, empathy, and care for the children and their families, colleagues, and other members of Georgetown University and the surrounding community
  • Criminal background check clearance, child protection registry clearance, drug and alcohol testing clearance, and any other requirements outlined by OSSE, Georgetown University, and relevant regulations

Must be able to:
  • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Use a wide range of motion, including but not limited to, lifting, holding, and setting children down, sitting down and standing up, getting up off of and down onto the floor, moving quickly, walking, running, hopping, dancing, pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Work at least two hours daily outside in temperatures between 32 and 90 degrees in a variety of weather conditions such as, sunny, cloudy, overcast, and ground conditions that are dry, damp, wet, or snowy.
  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification, trainings, and other certification, are required within 30 days of employment.

Continuing qualifications during employment:
  • Background checks and alcohol and drug testing
  • Annual professional development (currently 21 hours)
  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification

Preferred qualifications have earned at least one of the following:
  • Associate's degree (or higher) in early childhood education, early childhood development, child and family studies or a closely related field
  • Two or more years as an assistant teacher in a licensed child development center
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, time management, flexibility, and communication skills.
  • Current Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$17.95 - $26.84
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
