Job description

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to support gold mining operations in the Elko, Nevada area. The Senior Geologist will play a key role in geological interpretation, ore control, resource development, exploration, and production support across underground and/or surface mining operations.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in gold exploration and mining, excellent geological modeling and data interpretation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with mining, engineering, and operations teams. This position requires a hands-on geologist who can work effectively in the field while also managing and interpreting geological data to support safe, efficient, and economically successful mine operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide senior-level geological support to active gold mining operations.
  • Conduct and oversee geological mapping, sampling, logging, and interpretation activities.
  • Support ore control programs, including grade control drilling, sampling, geological interpretation, and reconciliation.
  • Interpret drill data, assay results, structural geology, lithology, alteration, and mineralization to support mine planning and production decisions.
  • Develop and maintain geological models and databases using industry-standard geological software.
  • Assist with resource estimation, reserve development, and geological modeling activities.
  • Work closely with mine engineering and operations teams to ensure geological interpretations are incorporated into mine plans and production schedules.
  • Monitor and interpret geological conditions encountered during mining and provide recommendations to support operational decisions.
  • Review and validate geological and assay data to ensure accuracy, quality, and integrity.
  • Coordinate with drilling and sampling teams to ensure appropriate data collection and quality-control procedures are followed.
  • Participate in underground and surface mapping and geological inspections as required.
  • Identify and communicate geological risks and opportunities that may impact mine planning, production, or resource development.
  • Contribute to short- and long-term mine planning through geological interpretation and technical input.
  • Prepare geological reports, maps, cross-sections, technical summaries, and presentations.
  • Support resource and reserve reporting in accordance with applicable industry standards and company procedures.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate-level geologists and geological technicians.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, environmental responsibility, and compliance with mine site policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other geological and operational duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive geological experience, preferably within gold mining or mineral exploration.
  • Experience working in active mining operations, preferably with exposure to both underground and surface mining environments.
  • Strong understanding of economic geology, structural geology, mineralization, and ore deposit interpretation.
  • Experience with ore control, grade control, geological mapping, core logging, and sampling.
  • Experience interpreting drill results, assay data, and geological datasets.
  • Proficiency with geological modeling, database, and mine planning software.
  • Strong technical writing, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with mine operations, engineering, environmental, and exploration teams.
  • Ability to work in a field-based mining environment and conduct work underground and/or in active surface mine areas.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet mine site access requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in the Carlin Trend or Great Basin.
  • Previous experience with Nevada gold deposits and operations.
  • Experience with underground mining methods and production geology.
  • Experience with Leapfrog, Vulcan, MineSight, Datamine, Surpac, or similar geological and mine modeling software.
  • Experience with QA/QC programs and geological database management.
  • Experience supporting resource estimation and mineral resource reporting.
  • Professional registration or eligibility for professional registration is a plus.
  • MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 training is preferred, depending on site requirements.
