Job description

LabCorp is seeking a Non-Registered Gross Tech to join our team in Seattle, WA

Location: 550 17TH Avenue, Seattle WA

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5:00 PM

Job Responsibilities

  • Receive and accession tissue specimens; verify patient identifiers and test orders.
  • Gross assist at a basic level (e.g., cassette labeling, tissue orientation support per SOP).
  • Process tissue on automated processors; monitor schedules, reagents, and run logs.
  • Embed tissues in paraffin with correct orientation and block documentation.
  • Microtomy: cut routine paraffin sections at required thickness; float, mount, and dry slides.
  • Perform routine H&E staining (manual or automated); assist with special stains and immunohistochemistry setup under supervision.
  • Operate and maintain lab instruments (microtomes, stainers, coverslippers, processors, cassette printers); perform daily QC/maintenance and document per SOP.
  • Maintain reagent prep logs, temperature logs, and equipment records.
  • Follow CAP/CLIA, OSHA, and Labcorp safety policies, including PPE use and biohazard handling.
  • Participate in proficiency testing, quality improvement, and inventory control.
  • Communicate specimen or QC issues promptly to lead techs/pathologists.
  • Support turnaround time goals and workload prioritization across shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or prior LabCorp experience
  • 6 months or more experience with grossing small biopsies and complex surgical specimens
  • 6months or more experience working in a high-volume clinical laboratory environment

Additional Job Standards

  • Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance practices
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety, hazardous waste management, and PPE requirements
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
  • Flexibility to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business need
  • Comfortable with fine motor tasks (embedding, microtomy) and attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of tissue processing, staining principles, and lab safety.
  • Able to follow SOPs, maintain accurate records, and work in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

**Pay Range: $25.85 - $41.07 per hour

All job offers will bebased on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience and the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between Dynacare Northwest, Inc. and United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 21.

Benefits:Regular, full-time or part-time employees working 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), accrue up to 18 days of Annual Leave per year (includes 8 holidays) and Sick Leave (0.0333) hours of sick leave for each hour of work) capped at 64 hours per year, Tuition Reimbursement and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
