Job description

Eddie Kane Steel Products has been a family owned and operated business providing exceptional service in the steel industry for over 26 years. The company motto has always been to \Treat others as you would have them treat you\ and we are in search of a full time Maintenance Lead.

General description: Responsible for performing all activities relating to the operation and maintenance of equipment, machines, vehicles & facility property and production activities.

Schedule: Monday-Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm with half hour lunch.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintenance

  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Ensures that debris from all ongoing projects is cleaned daily and that tools are stored in an organized, protected location.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance problems in a timely manner and provides prompt solutions when possible.
  • Actively participates in all maintenance-related projects and all shop activities requiring immediate and preventive maintenance in a safe and efficient manner by using tools, materials and equipment appropriate for the job. All jobs are to be carried out with quality workmanship and in a professional manner.
  • Formulates a maintenance & repair plan and communicates the plan details to management.
  • Maintains a structured Preventive Maintenance program and trains other maintenance personnel and equipment operators with the requirements of the plan periodically and as needed.
  • Maintains adequate outside resources to assist with trouble shooting and repair of those items which are beyond the normal expectations of maintenance personnel (i.e. radio controls, digital electronics, drive card repairs, etc.)
  • Schedules maintenance work to ensure minimal lost production time and ensures qualified maintenance staff is available for emergency repairs during all shifts.
  • Requests purchase requisitions for all materials and equipment used for maintenance purposes.
  • Assist Maintenance Manager with maintenance projects, emergency repairs, and planned preventive maintenance shut-downs.
  • Review preventive maintenance plans and maintenance purchasing.
  • Makes tooling, jigs, fixtures, and other devices to enable production of new products or to improve the quality or efficiency of existing manufacturing processes.
  • Follows all current and future safety procedures in accordance with the companywide safety policy for manufacturing operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skill Sets:

  • Has knowledge of low-voltage control wiring, 120V single-phase and 480V three-phase wiring systems and the ability to trouble shoot and make repairs as needed.
  • Has knowledge of AC and DC electric motors and the ability to trouble shoot, test and repair this equipment as needed.
  • Has good working knowledge of CNC burning machines and the ability to trouble shoot drive systems, repair lifting stations and other mechanical systems associated with this equipment.
  • Ability to trouble shoot and repair hydraulic systems, compressed air systems, forklifts and HVAC systems.
  • Has experience and knowledge related to heavy rigging and lifting and understands safe methods for the movement and installation of heavy equipment.
  • Skilled with general steel fabrication, including but not limited to fitting, welding, flame cutting, sawing, shearing, punching, bending and painting.
  • Basic reading and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, squat, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work from a ladder at heights up to 16’-0” or from a man-lift at heights up to 50’-0”.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 3 - 5 years prior experience in a manufacturing environment.

As a steel service center and distributor of hot-rolled prime and non-prime steel plate, Eddie Kane Steel sells on- and off-gauge, pattern and non-pattern plate sizes, ranging in thickness from 3/16 to 8 inches. Eddie Kane Steel maintains a diverse inventory of prime and non-prime steel plate and, for its strategic customer partners, stock inventory of custom-made parts. Value-added products include OEM parts, counterweights, and steel burn outs for diverse industries, including the waste industry, general building construction, transportation, agricultural and industrial equipment, drilling, theatrical stage, and elevator industries.
Eddie Kane Steel’s flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail.
Eddie Kane Steel’s processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface. Through close partnerships with vendors offering proven high-quality workmanship, we provide services such as painting and coating, stamping, embossing, slitting, sawing, turning, annealing, leveling, and pressing.
