QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Candidate must possess a Bachelor or Master's of Science degree in Education.
  2. Candidates must possess a valid New York State Science teaching certificate that holds a General Science Extension for grades 5-9 or 7-12.
  3. Candidate must possess fingerprint clearance from New York State Education Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teaches the syllabi as mandated by the New York State Education Department.
  2. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials.
  3. Implements lesson plans and utilizes instruction time to effect optimal learning conditions.
  4. Establishes effective rapport with students.
  5. Motivates students to develop skills, attributes, and knowledge necessary for future educational endeavors.
  6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  7. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  8. Establishes effective communication with parents through conferences and other appropriate channels to discuss students' progress.
  9. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  10. Maintains professional competence through in-service programs provided by the District and self-selected professional growth activities. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  11. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  12. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  13. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the District testing program.
  14. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  15. Participates in faculty committees.
  16. Assumes any other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
