TELUS Spark Science Centre (Spark), a registered educational charity, exists to entertain and inspire people of all ages through creative encounters with science, engineering, technology, math and art. Spark exists to lift people up with the power of curiosity through creative encounters with science!ย 

Calgary's science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada's largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven's Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada's first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters.ย 

Position Overviewย 

Spark is currently recruiting for two(2) part-time, Seasonal Science Guides to join the Gallery Science team for 7 months. The Seasonal Science Guide, Gallery Science reports directly to the Manager, Interpretive Science Connections. This role will be a key contributor to the guest experience at TELUS Spark. They are accountable for delivering a world-class level of scito guests. They actively demonstrate creativity, collaboration, flexibility, and exceptional engagement in every aspect of their work at Spark Science Centre. As a Seasonal Science Guide, Gallery Science you will start in the Daily Operations home base where you will act as a host in the lobby, galleries and exhibits with the goal of creating emotional connections with guests through the lens of science. Key Responsibilitiesย 

  • Act as a host for all guests with high energy and enthusiasm, giving insider tips where appropriate and connecting with guests through science communication.ย 

  • Seek out guest interactions, creating special moments to enhance the guest experience at Spark.ย 

  • Deliver ground-breaking experiences for assigned roles and programming.ย 

  • Quantify the guest experience through the collection of surveys.ย 

  • Keep up to date on Spark programming, initiatives, membership offerings and promotions.ย 

  • Work collaboratively with other Spark teams to meet objectives, creatively solve issues, and anticipate challenges.ย 

  • Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark.ย 

  • Maintain a safe teaching and learning environment for staff and our guests by following relevant Health and Safety policies.ย 

  • Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.ย 

  • Other duties as required and assigned.ย 


Qualifications & Knowledgeย 

  • Experience in one of the following interpretation, education, engagement, science, technology, engineering, math, art or working with the general public.ย ย ย 

  • Experience in science communicating, public speaking, and/or engaging with diverse audiences. ย 

  • An enthusiasm for science, technology, and proven experience with being ambassadors for science.ย 

  • Experience in interpretation, tourism, science centres, or museums is an asset.ย 

  • Demonstrates a passion for creating an amazing guest experience, going above and beyond to connect through science.ย 

  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams and able to use most platforms.ย 

  • A proven track record of adding value to an organization's culture and initiatives.ย 

  • A positive attitude!ย 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.ย 

  • Desire to work on a high performing team with a continuous upgrading culture to achieve high impact results. Fluidity and a desire to work hard and grow are essential.ย 

  • A high degree of creativity with the ability to leave your ego at the door.ย 

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change.ย 

  • A clear criminal background check is required.ย 

Hourly rate: $17.03ย  per hour.ย
