Key Account Manager – GM Customer Relationship

Location: Rochester Hills, Michigan
Salary: Up to $125,000 + Bonus + Profit Sharing

Are you an automotive Account Manager looking to take ownership of a major OEM relationship within a global Tier 1 supplier? My client is seeking a commercially minded professional to manage and grow its General Motors business within a highly successful mechatronic systems division.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an industry leader that develops and manufactures advanced mechatronic systems for the automotive industry, supplying innovative solutions to some of the world's most recognised vehicle manufacturers.

The Opportunity

Reporting into the Sales leadership team, you will be responsible for managing the General Motors customer relationship, overseeing current programs while identifying and securing future business opportunities. This role combines strategic account management with commercial growth, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building customer relationships and driving results.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, program management, manufacturing, and customer application engineering to ensure customer satisfaction and successful program execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop the General Motors customer account portfolio.
  • Act as the primary commercial contact for GM stakeholders.
  • Support ongoing production programs and ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and program awards.
  • Develop and execute account growth strategies.
  • Lead commercial discussions including quotations, negotiations, and business reviews.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering and technical teams to support customer needs.
  • Build strong relationships with key customer stakeholders across purchasing, engineering, and program management functions.
  • Monitor market activity, competitor developments, and future opportunities within GM.
What We're Looking For
  • Experience in automotive account management, sales, or business development within a Tier 1 supplier environment.
  • Previous experience managing or supporting the General Motors account is highly desirable.
  • Approximately 5+ years of relevant automotive industry experience.
  • Experience with mechatronic systems or other technically complex automotive products would be advantageous, although product training can be provided.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage customer relationships and negotiate effectively.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple business functions.
  • Ambitious, relationship-driven, and eager to develop a long-term career within a global automotive supplier.
