Unaccredited Trainee - Otolaryngology (Head & Neck Surgery)

Orange Health Service

To provide effective medical services in Otolaryngology and General Surgery to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in surgical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Trainee will contribute to the daily management and care of ENT and surgical patients, both at Orange and its neighbouring hospitals. On-call commitment will be shared with the general surgical medical officers.

Focusing on innovative models of care, Orange Health Service is the largest rural hospital in NSW and the regional teaching, referral and trauma centre for the Central West. The 520 bed campus has a 150 bed general hospital, with five operating suites and 60 specialised treatment areas.

Opened in 2011, services include FACEM-staffed emergency, inclusive of trauma; level 5 intensive care, medical, general and specialist surgical; obstetrics; paediatrics; level 4 maternity; dialysis; dental; cardiology, stroke,ย telestroke, interventional cardiology; radiation oncology; ambulatory care; rehabilitation; sub-acute/non-acute; diagnostic and a range of primary and community health services.ย

Essential Requirements:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Valid NSW Working with Children check.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Cleared National Police check.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Aged Care Check for Australian Government funded positions.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.

  2. At least three years' post graduate experience, including terms in General Surgery and ideally ENT, with a minimum of 12 months experience working within the Australian public health care system within the previous 24 months.

  3. Demonstrated orientation to rural/regional practice through life experiences, medical school and/or residency, outlining evidence of commitment to the provision of health care in a rural setting, preferably with experience of rural or regional medicine.

  4. Demonstrates commitment to pursuing a career in Otolaryngology Surgery or associated specialty with registration or intention to register with an appropriate professional body (e.g. RACS).

  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  6. Effective oral, written and computer skills and demonstrated good organisational time management skills.

  7. Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education.

  8. Ability and willingness to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a shift and on-call roster.
