About the Position Golden State Group-home to the Warriors, Valkyries, Santa Cruz Warriors, Chase Center, and Thrive City-is looking for a dynamic Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Labor & Employment to help shape the legal landscape of one of the most innovative organizations in sports and entertainment. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-visibility role where your legal expertise directly protects and empowers the organization, its employees, and a world-class brand. In this role, you will work with best-in-class business units and operational teams to manage risk and navigate broad-based litigation, and coordinate with Human Resources, Operations and other teams on complex labor and employment matters. Candidates with significant labor and employment experience will be given strong preference. This position will report to the Chief Legal Officer. This is a full-time position based onsite in San Francisco, CA. Key Responsibilities
  • Drive the end-to-end management of the organization's entire litigation portfolio, including labor and employment matters, commercial disputes, general liability, personal injury, and intellectual property litigation
  • Oversee the legal side of labor and employment matters, coordinating with Human Resources and business leaders on performance management, accommodations, discipline, terminations, and compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws (e.g., FEHA, Title VII, ADA, and wage & hour regulations)
  • Enhance operational excellence by updating and refining employee handbooks, HR compliance policies, and cross-functional internal processes
  • Provide strategic legal support for workplace investigations, grievance handling, and union-related labor matters, ensuring execution in full compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
  • Oversee all pre-litigation disputes, arbitrations, and administrative charges, ensuring strategic alignment across the organization
  • Deliver clear, decisive legal guidance on litigation and employment issues affecting sports, entertainment, venue operations, and commercial activities
  • Manage outside counsel and interface with external stakeholders (including mediators, arbitrators, regulatory agencies, and opposing counsel) to ensure alignment, cost-effectiveness, and exceptional representation of the organization across all contested matters
  • Lead and mentor risk and compliance personnel, utilizing a risk-calibrated, solution-oriented approach to support the organization's overarching business priorities
  • Anticipate operational and regulatory challenges in the litigation, liability, and employment space, devising forward-looking, practical strategies to minimize disputes and mitigate enterprise risk
  • Monitor and interpret legal developments to ensure ongoing compliance and best-in-class governance across all business units
  • Communicate complex legal concepts in business-focused, accessible terms that empower leaders to make confident, informed decisions
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Experience & Skills
  • Juris Doctor degree with an active bar license and the ability to practice in-house in California
  • 7+ years of legal experience, ideally with a combination of top-tier law firm training and in-house counsel experience; experience working with sports and entertainment clients and/or venues is preferred
  • Deep expertise in labor and employment law is highly valued, including hands-on experience with labor unions, employment counseling, workplace investigations, dispute resolution, and administrative claims
  • Strong people management skills, with specific experience overseeing employees within risk and compliance disciplines
  • Ability to support operational business units, balancing legal risk with business priorities in fast-moving, highly visible settings
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence senior executives, external partners, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience building scalable legal infrastructure, including litigation management processes, compliance frameworks, playbooks, and governance models that elevate efficiency and consistency
  • High integrity, discretion, and professionalism, with the ability to handle highly sensitive information and navigate high-stakes situations with confidence
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
