Job description

Job Title: Global Gender Justice Advisor

Department: Justice and Peace

Reports To: Director, Justice & Peace

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Location: Burlington, ON or Byron Center, MI (Hybrid)

Salary Level: $82,206 - $92481 CADor $80,649 - $90,730 USD

PURPOSE:

To provide leadership and expertise that advance World Renewโ€™s commitment to gender equality through a faith-informed and justice-centered approach. This role strengthens the quality and impact of World Renewโ€™s programs by supporting staff and partners, building organizational capacity, promoting learning, and strengthening gender expertise in advocacy, public engagement, and policy initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Technical Leadership & Program Support
  • Serve as World Renew's lead technical advisor on gender equality, providing strategic leadership, organizational guidance, and technical expertise across development, humanitarian, and justice/peacebuilding programming.
  • Collaborate with departmental (Transformational Development and International Disaster Response teams), regional, and field teams to strength institutional approaches, ensure alignment with organizational commitments, and promote gender transformative programming across the organization.
  • Support regional teams and local partners to integrate gender-transformative approaches across the program cycle in all sectors, including gender analysis, program design, monitoring and evaluation, and results-based management. This include advising on assessments, indicators, and program adaptations to strengthen equity and inclusion for women, girls, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
  • Provide technical support and coordination to Regional Gender Justice Coordinators and other gender focal points.
Capacity Strengthening & Learning
  • Strengthen staff, including Regional Gender Justice Coordinators, and partner capacity through design and delivery of training, coaching, mentoring, technical resources and facilitation of World Renewโ€™s Gender Working Group and Community of Practice.
  • Advance organizational learning and knowledge sharing by monitoring emerging research and best practices and developing practical tools, case studies, learning resources, and recommendations to strengthen programs and organizational effectiveness.
Organizational Support
  • Support organizational gender mainstreaming efforts by contributing to policies, standards, accountability frameworks, and organizational learning initiatives that advance gender equality across World Renew.
Advocacy & Representation
  • Represent World Renew in external networks, coalitions, forums and working groups related to gender equality and justice.
  • Contribute gender expertise to organizational advocacy, public policy, public engagement, and education initiatives, ensuring that gender-transformative approaches are reflected across the Justice & Peace teamโ€™s work.
  • Perform other jobโ€‘related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides matrix-level support to regional gender coordinators (approx. 3โ€“5, varying by region) and may supervise consultants and interns/volunteers as needed.

  • Committed to advancing gender equality, equity and justice in all aspects of our programming, policies and organizational structure.
  • Demonstrated expertise in advancing gender equality through programs that address discrimination, unequal power relations, harmful social norms, and barriers to health, rights, and participation, particularly in low-resource or humanitarian settings.
  • Proven experience with bilateral or multilateral donors, including familiarity with the Feminist International Assistance Policy, Results Based Management frameworks, and gender equality requirements.
  • Expertise developing and using gender-sensitive monitoring, evaluation, and learning approaches, including collection and analysis of disaggregated data.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how gender intersects with factors such as disability, age, ethnicity, displacement, socioeconomic status, and the implications for programming and advocacy.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and GBV prevention, with the ability to integrate these principles into programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, coach, and strengthen the capacity of regions, country teams, and local partners and staff support change across teams and regions and partner organizations in locally led approaches to gender equality.
  • Strong facilitation, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse sectors, cultures, and perspectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex gender issues into practical guidance, learning resources, donor reports, advocacy messages, and recommendations for diverse audiences.
  • Cross-cultural competency and collaborative leadership, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams across geographic regions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Gender Studies, International Development, Social Sciences, or related discipline with strong gender equality focus (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in gender equality programming, including technical advisory, capacity strengthening, and field-based implementation roles.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Additional languages are an asset.
