Schedule: Part-time (Up to 29.5 hours/week) | Follows student school calendarย
Reports to: Shaun Rose (Principal)ย
Position Summary
This adult support / 1:1 role provides targeted academic and behavioral support to a specific student with intellectual, developmental, behavioral, and/or communication disabilities within the general education setting. The goal is to support the student's individual academic, social, communication, and/or adaptive skills.ย
Key Responsibilitiesย
1. 1:1 Student Support: Assist a designated student with Individual Education Program (IEP) goals, academic coursework, and behavior intervention plan in the general education setting.ย
2. Behavior & Therapy Support: Implement behavioral management and de-escalation strategies; support speech-language, occupational, and/or physical therapy goals under teacher guidance.ย
3. School-Wide Duties: Assist with building needs as assigned (e.g., cafeteria, bus duty, parent drop-off/pick-up, recess).ย
4. Flexibility: Serve as a substitute teacher if district needs arise. ย
5. Note: Placements are reviewed yearly and subject to change based on student and district needs.
Qualificationsย
General Requirementsย
1. Must pass a national background check.ย
2. High school diploma or equivalent.ย
"Highly Qualified" Criteria (Must meet at least ONE):ย
1. 48+ college credit hours, an Associate degree, or higher.ย
2. 1 year (or 1,000 hours) of experience working with children in a school setting.ย
3. Valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.ย
4. Passing score on the Praxis ParaPro Assessment (or ability to pass within the first year).ย
5. Annual completion of SMCSC's required professional development modules and a passing annual evaluation.ย
