Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Quality Inspector / EHS Technician is a dual-focused role who is responsible for performing daily inspections of Prolec GE Waukesha Components products and incoming vendor supplied raw materials and purchased parts, input of daily inspection data including CARโ€™s, QCOโ€™s, NCRโ€™s, ECRโ€™s, population of Quality department databases for historical tracking and other duties as assigned while also ensuring daily compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards across operational areas. Reporting to the Quality / EHS Leader of the site, this role supports floor-level execution of safety processes by auditing compliance, verifying corrective actions, and validating adherence to company and regulatory requirements. The position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe working environment, preventing incidents, and reinforcing a strong safety culture aligned with corporate standards and regulatory obligations.



PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Daily inspection of Components products both finished and in process to drawing specifications and receiving inspection of vendor supplied products.
  • Inspection and test of components, small assemblies, DETC, N2, DCB/SCB and wiring inspection.
  • Interface with other internal departments and external customers or suppliers to resolve quality related issues.
  • Data entry of inspection results into Components Quality Department inspection logs.
  • Determining acceptance / reject of products and materials being inspected
  • Support generation and maintenance of all quality records - Quality Procedures and Practices, and Quality Department databases.
  • Perform environmental, health, and safety audits/inspections (fire extinguishers, cranes and hoists, eyewash stations, electrical safety, PPE compliance, etc.)
  • Assist with investigation of accidents and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend risk-mitigation actions.
  • Assist with safety training sessions for employees.
  • Support contractor and non-routine work compliance assessments.
  • Support root cause analysis and support corrective action development.
  • Respond to emergency situations and support emergency response protocols as required.
  • Execute and meet weekly audit plans and schedules.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


  • Basic knowledge of ISO 9001 Standards.
  • Familiar with basic measuring tools (i.e., calipers, scale, etc.).
  • Familiar with engineering drawing reading.
  • Proven basic math skills.
  • Basic computer skills such as data entry, familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows.
  • Must learn, understand, and follow all Company Quality and EHS processes.
  • Must learn and develop skills in inspection / verification of Components products, assist with internal audits.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry standards.
  • Basic understanding of high-risk safety programs including LOTO, confined space entry, work at heights, electrical safety, and hot work.
  • Basic understanding of incident investigation methodologies and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Understanding manufacturing processes and industrial safety best practices.
  • Strong auditing and inspection skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports and document findings accurately.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Organizational and time-management skills to manage daily audit schedules.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications and EHS reporting systems.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
  • Ability to observe employees and supervisors to drive compliance and safe behaviors.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Required Education / Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic knowledge of Geometric Tolerancing and QMS.
  • Basic knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs.
  • Some working knowledge of OSHA standards & requirements.

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Associates Degree in Quality, Mechanical or Industrial Technology, or related field.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT).
  • Familiar with QMS and ISO 9001 Standards.
  • At least one year of relevant experience or education in Environmental, Health, and Safety programs.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour certification.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and performing root cause analysis.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION


Key Working Relationships

  • Operations Management, including Plant Supervision, Warehouse, Planning, Shop and Office employees. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

    Must be able to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Physical Demands

Must be able to walk, stand, sit, stoop, squat, and kneel for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.


Working Conditions

This role is primarily based on the shop floor, with additional time spent in an office environment within a manufacturing facility.

Some minimal travel may be required for training purposes.
