These competencies are essential to ensure the safe, reliable operation of fire hydrants and proper coordination with municipal teams and emergency responders.
As a Fire Hydrant Maintenance technician, your day-to-day responsibilities often include inspecting hydrants for leaks or obstructions, performing routine flushing, lubricating and repairing parts, and documenting maintenance reports. You may also assist with flow testing to verify pressure levels and ensure hydrants are accessible to emergency crews. Typically, you'll work as part of a small municipal or utility team, coordinating with water system operators and sometimes responding to urgent repair requests. This hands-on work requires you to spend much of your time outdoors and occasionally adjust your schedule to accommodate emergencies or seasonal demands.
A Fire Hydrant Maintenance job involves inspecting, testing, repairing, and maintaining fire hydrants to ensure they function properly in emergencies. Workers check for leaks, remove debris, lubricate parts, and repaint hydrants as needed. They may also perform flow tests to ensure adequate water pressure for firefighting. Skilled Labor Crew needed for immediate openings in West Jefferson County (Cheek, Fannett, Hamshire & LaBelle areas). Duties will include meter & fire hydrant maintenance, grinding, operation of zero-turn mowers & other heavy and light equipment, mowing, weed eating, land clearing and other duties as assigned. Starting pay is $17.00 or DOE with the possibility of overtime. Water/Wastewater experience is a huge plus!! This is a long-term, temp-to-hire position. All applicants must have a valid Texas Drivers’ License, good driving record, clear background and be able to pass a drug test.
