Vibro information

What is a vibro?

Vibros are professionals who operate vibro-compaction or vibroflotation equipment, which are machines used to improve the properties of soil at construction sites. Their main role is to use these machines to densify loose, granular soils, making the ground more stable for large structures such as buildings, bridges, or roads. Vibros may also perform equipment maintenance and ensure safety standards are met during soil improvement operations. They typically work for geotechnical engineering firms or construction companies on large-scale infrastructure projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a vibration analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Vibration Analyst, you need a solid understanding of mechanical systems, vibration theory, and data analysis, usually supported by a relevant engineering degree or technical certification. Familiarity with vibration analysis tools, data acquisition systems, and software such as CSI, SKF, or Emerson is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication help analysts interpret results and convey actionable insights. These skills and qualifications are crucial for accurately diagnosing equipment issues and ensuring the reliability and safety of industrial operations.

What are some typical challenges vibro operators face on construction sites, and how can they be addressed?

Vibro operators often encounter challenges such as varying soil conditions, equipment maintenance issues, and the need for precise coordination with site engineers and other trades. To address these, operators must stay attentive to changes in soil composition, adhere to regular equipment inspections, and maintain clear communication with the project team. Proactively identifying potential issues and participating in ongoing training can help ensure operations run smoothly and safely.

What is the difference between Vibro vs Vibrator Operator?

AspectVibroVibrator Operator
CredentialsTypically requires safety certifications and technical trainingRequires similar safety certifications and equipment operation training
Work EnvironmentConstruction sites, roadwork, foundation workConstruction sites, industrial settings, concrete pouring
Industry UsageConstruction, civil engineeringConstruction, concrete industry
Job FocusOperating vibratory equipment for compactionHandling and operating vibrators for concrete or soil

Vibro and Vibrator Operator roles both involve operating vibratory equipment in construction and civil engineering. While their work environments and required certifications overlap, Vibro generally refers to a broader category of vibratory machinery, whereas Vibrator Operator specifically handles vibrators used in concrete and soil compaction. Both roles are essential for ensuring proper material compaction and structural integrity in construction projects.

We believe our mission is to further research, communications, and exploration beyond low lunar orbit. With multiple NASA lunar missions in the making and additional private missions on our manifest, we pride ourselves in supporting NASA, our customers and the nation in paving the way to return humans to the surface of the moon. Our world-class team includes experts in all spacecraft subsystems design, development, and test, on-orbit operations, and safety.

Intuitive Machines is seeking a talented and experienced Sr Structural Dynamics Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Sr Structural Dynamics Engineer, you will be supporting test and analysis of spacecraft hardware under dynamic environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, analyze, and perform testing such as ground vibration testing of spacecraft hardware, modal testing for finite element model validation, troubleshooting vibration problems, and strain gauge testing of space structures.
  • Construct finite element, superelements, and test display models suitable for dynamic analyses such as modal, vibration, and vibro-acoustic.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to define test plans that include instrumentation and response limits based on analysis results from dynamic analysis including factors such as material strength, notching, and mode shapes.
  • Provide on-site support of modal, vibration, and vibro-acoustic testing to ensure test targets and objectives are being achieved.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentation to communicate analysis results, findings, and recommendations to internal stakeholders and customers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Willingness to travel to test facilities and work at test sites.
  • 10+ years of experience with 5+ years of experience specifically in structural dynamics analysis and test
  • Experience with vibration, shock, and modal testing, from writing test plans, execution, interpretation of results, and using data to correlate models.
  • Proficient with performing analytical simulations and finite element modeling in Nastran.
  • Proficient in performing static and dynamic analyses such as sine vibration, random vibration, shock, and vibro-acoustic analysis both with FEA and traditional hand calculations.
  • Experience in signal analysis and analyzing data in both the time and frequency domain.
  • Proficient in coding, performing simulations, and analyzing data in MATLAB or Python.
  • Familiarity with relevant SMC / MIL-STD / NASA standards for analysis and test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Beta CAE products for finite element modeling and data post-processing. (ANSA, META, EPYLISIS)
  • Experience with Simcenter (NX) Nastran
  • Experience with Vibration Research test software
  • Experience with MEscope
