Familiarity with entry control systems, surveillance equipment, or two-way radios is often necessary and may be supplemented by safety or security certifications. Strong interpersonal skills, reliability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help individuals excel in coordinating with team members and interacting with the public. These capabilities are vital for ensuring secure, efficient access control and maintaining a safe environment at entrances and exits.

What are some typical challenges faced by gate operators on the job?

Gate Operators often work outdoors in various weather conditions and may need to stay alert during long or overnight shifts. Sales Representative – Flagpoles, Flags & Custom Products

Gates Flag & Banner Company, Inc.

Full-Time | Base Salary + Commission

About the Position:
Gates Flag & Banner Company is a family-owned and operated business with a proud history dating back to 1870. For more than 150 years, we have provided quality flags, flagpoles, banners, custom products, installation, and service to residential, commercial and municipal customers.
We are seeking a motivated and results-driven Sales Representative to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys developing customer relationships, pursuing opportunities, solving problems, and turning leads into long-term customers.
This is not an order-processing position. While you will work with incoming leads and existing customers, we are looking for someone who takes ownership of their sales pipeline and is motivated to turn opportunities into results.
Key Responsibilities:
·       Respond promptly and professionally to incoming sales leads and customer inquiries.
·       Develop a clear understanding of each customer’s needs, budget, timeline, and project requirements.
·       Prepare accurate quotes and proposals for flags, flagpoles, installations, services, and custom products.
·       Maintain consistent and professional follow-up on all open quotes and sales opportunities.
·       Proactively contact customers when proposals remain outstanding rather than waiting for customers to respond.
·       Identify customer concerns, objections, and barriers to purchase and work toward appropriate solutions.
·       Ask for the sale and confidently guide customers toward a purchasing decision.
·       Manage opportunities from initial contact through completion of the sale.
·       Develop new business through prospecting, outbound communication, referrals, previous customers, and dormant opportunities.
·       Build relationships with commercial customers, municipalities, schools, contractors, property managers, organizations, and other potential accounts.
·       Maintain an organized and accurate sales pipeline within the company’s CRM.
·       Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate pricing, project details, production requirements, installation information, and customer expectations.
·       Develop strong product knowledge and confidently recommend appropriate products and solutions.
·       Consistently work toward established individual and company sales goals.
Additional Responsibilities:

Many of our commercial flagpole projects involve general contractors, construction managers, municipalities, schools, architects, property managers, and other professional organizations. The Sales Representative must be comfortable managing the additional communication and documentation these projects require.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing bid invitations, project specifications, plans, and other bid documents to identify relevant scope and requirements
  • Reading and understanding purchase orders, subcontracts, and other project-related documents
  • Reviewing project scope carefully to ensure Gates' proposal and responsibilities align with the customer's requirements
  • Identifying important contract requirements, exclusions, deadlines, documentation, and potential concerns and communicating them internally when necessary
  • Completing and submitting required vendor, contractor, bid, and project documentation accurately and on time
  • Coordinating required submittals, product information, insurance documentation, W-9s, compliance documents, and other project paperwork
  • Tracking important project deadlines and documentation requirements
  • Maintaining organized records of proposals, contracts, purchase orders, correspondence, approvals, and project documentation
  • Communicating professionally and effectively with project managers, estimators, purchasing departments, general contractors, facility managers, municipal representatives, and other decision-makers
  • Following up with project contacts throughout the bidding, award, scheduling, and completion process
  • Clearly communicating project expectations, responsibilities, timelines, and changes between the customer and the appropriate Gates team members
  • Recognizing contractual or project requirements that require management review before committing Gates to the work

Qualifications:

·       Previous sales experience, particularly in inside sales, B2B sales, construction-related sales, commercial products, or project-based sales.
·       Experience working with general contractors, construction projects, municipalities, schools, property managers, or commercial customers is a plus
·       Experience reviewing bid documents, specifications, purchase orders, or subcontracts is strongly preferred
·       Demonstrated ability to follow leads and opportunities through the complete sales cycle.
·       Comfortable making outbound calls and initiating conversations with prospective customers.
·       Strong verbal and written communication skills.
·       Ability to confidently discuss pricing, respond to objections, and ask for the sale.
·       Strong organizational and time-management skills.
·       Ability to manage multiple customers, quotes, projects, and follow-up activities simultaneously.
·       Comfortable working with CRM software and maintaining accurate customer and sales information.
·       Ability and willingness to learn technical product information.
·       Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing an excellent customer experience.
Products & Services:
The Sales Representative will sell and support a variety of products and services, including:
·       Residential and commercial flagpoles
·       Flagpole installation, service, repair, and replacement
·       U.S., state, military, international, and specialty flags
·       Custom flags
·       Custom banners
·       Avenue and street banners
·       Hometown Hero banner programs
·       Vinyl banners and other custom products
·       Flagpole hardware and accessories
·       Related products and services
Product-specific training will be provided. Previous flag or flagpole industry experience is not required.
Compensation:
This position offers a competitive base salary plus performance-based commission
Base: $45K
Expected earnings: $65K–80K
Strong performer: $80K - $90K
