Building the people that build the world.
With platforms in HVAC and Detection and Measurement, SPX Technologies builds innovative solutions that enable a safer, more efficient, sustainable world. Through our RiSE talent development framework, we Reach, Identify, Strengthen, and Engage our employees to support them in their continued development. We're a global company of problem solvers, collaborators, and innovators, and our businesses build solutions that impact the world.
As part of Detection and Measurement, ULC Technologies is a leader in R&D and field services for energy and utility companies, repairing and maintaining gas pipelines and infrastructure. With robotic solutions and innovative inspection technology, we improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of infrastructure systems.
How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
As a Natural Gas Field Mechanical Technician, you will help operate and maintain CISBOT, a proprietary robotic system used to perform critical repairs from within buried natural gas pipelines. This is a hands-on opportunity to work in an outdoor utility construction environment while contributing to methane leak reduction and supporting cleaner, more sustainable energy infrastructure.
ULC provides comprehensive training on its proprietary robotic platform and the field repair process. In this role, you will build experience with advanced mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems while developing specialized expertise in robotic pipeline rehabilitation.
Candidates with experience in automotive repair, plumbing, construction, HVAC, manufacturing, and related skilled trades may do well in this role. People who enjoy hands-on mechanical work, problem-solving, and working outdoors in a team-oriented environment are encouraged to apply.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at ULC, your core responsibilities will be:
  • Learn and follow site safety procedures, operational standards, setup protocols, and equipment breakdown processes
  • Assist with setup, operation, and teardown of proprietary pipeline repair technology at excavation sites
  • Support safe and efficient job site setup, including placement of traffic control devices and safety equipment such as cones, barriers, wheel chocks, and gas detection systems
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, vehicles, and equipment
  • Participate in field-based and classroom training to build proficiency with company systems and qualify for expanded field responsibilities
  • Perform routine system testing and monitor inventory levels to help maintain operational readiness
  • Attend daily safety briefings and report to work prepared with required personal protective equipment
  • Monitor and support site operations throughout the workday to help maintain productivity and safety
  • Continue developing technical skills through training on new equipment, procedures, and field techniques
  • Operate company vehicles and travel to field sites as needed in support of field operations
  • Travel to various job sites, sometimes on short notice, and work weekends or night shifts as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, pneumatics, electronics, or troubleshooting
  • Ability to operate small- to medium-sized utility trucks under 26,000 lbs
  • Strong interest in technical systems and advanced field equipment
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a safety-first mindset

Travel and Work Environment
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel frequently in support of company operations
  • Availability to work non-standard shifts, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and environmental conditions
