Job description

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Engineering Manager - Infrastructure is responsible for leading, mentoring, and managing a team focused on the CI/CD pipeline and related infrastructure, which includes both cloud and on-premises solutions. This includes ensuring the team follows best practices while architecting, developing, scaling, and optimizing our build and distribution pipeline for multiple game titles across globally distributed teams and partners. The ideal candidate has broad experience automating large-scale software/game builds and excels at the intersection of development and infrastructure, taking the team to the next level.

This is a hands-on management position; time will be balanced between leading and mentoring the team, with a significant portion of Individual Contributor (IC) work, including coding and technical problem-solving.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead and mentor the infrastructure team, fostering a culture of best practices, collaboration, and technical excellence
  • Manage the team's contribution to the development of a pipeline that spans from code submission and validation, through full product build, and finally to artifact storage and distribution
  • Own the technical roadmap for build, release, and infrastructure systems, including prioritization, modernization, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency
  • Drive optimization efforts across the pipeline to reduce build times and infrastructure costs
  • Collaborate effectively with Engineers, Designers, Artists, and IT to align infrastructure goals with product needs
  • Ensure the infrastructure supports globally distributed teams and partners, as both contributors to, and consumers of pipeline products
  • Target all relevant game platforms, including desktop, consoles, and mobile.
  • Plan for and make recommendations for team growth and new roles to support infrastructure goals
  • Oversee the writing of clear architecture and user documentation for developed systems
  • Monitor key metrics such as build times, build success rates, and failure analysis, and champion solutions for continuous improvement
  • Manage the team's participation in the on-call rotation, incident response, and postmortem processes
  • Oversee the operational health, deployment, and lifecycle management for all infrastructure services and systems owned by the engineering team
  • Provide security oversight in correlation with IT around access control systems like Perforce and build access
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, provide performance feedback, support career development, manage priorities, and help grow team capability
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience
  • 8+ years software engineering and/or DevOps experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent hands-on professional experience
  • Experience with incident management, post mortem and moving from a reactive team to a proactive team
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud compute and storage platforms, including AWS
  • Experience with configuration management and deployment of cloud compute nodes
  • Experience with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins or TeamCity
  • Experience with Perforce
  • Experience leading small engineering teams
  • Extensive experience with scripting languages (Python, batch, bash, etc.)
  • Experience with the architecture and design of complex, large-scale systems
  • Proven expertise in automation and scripting to streamline infrastructure operations
  • Strong understanding of first-party platform dynamics, guidelines, submission processes and tools (e.g., Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo)
  • Plus: Game DevOps experience
  • Double Plus: Unreal Engine Horde / Gauntlet experience
