About our Controls and Avionics Aftermarket Group
BAE Systems is seeking a Product Support Engineer for our Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS) Aftermarket location in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Trusted in the industry, the CAS Aftermarket provides repair services and support for flight critical products to maintain and enhance the reliability of domestic and international commercial airlines as well as military applications. As a member of the BAE Systems team, you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with complex electronic controls and solve challenging technical problems that both enhance our products' performance and matter to our customers.
Position Summary
This role involves a combination of hands-on product/test engagement, collaborative teaming, and independent work. Therefore, a hybrid work format is allowed for flexibility with 3-4 days required to be on-site per week in the Fort Wayne Aftermarket. Some light travel may be required (<10%). Performance in the role requires frequent cross-functional engagement between Programs, the Aftermarket repair station operation, and external airline customers to deliver technical solutions and enhance our products' field reliability.
In this Product Support Engineer role, the qualified candidate will be the technical focal for products, applications, and customer support within the Aftermarket and its repair station operations. Responsibilities include:
  • Analyzing in-service product data trends to identify repair opportunities and/or technical solutions that benefit product performance and reliability
  • Providing on-site technical leadership and mentoring for product testing/diagnostics within the repair station
  • Leading event-related product investigations through root cause and failure analysis
  • Reviewing technical changes/updates to Maintenance Manuals and/or Service Bulletins for correctness and intelligibility
  • Providing clear and effective technical communication - written, verbal, or presentation - to internal/external customers (e.g. presenting during formal product reliability reviews; responding to general customer requests or application inquires; and authoring product investigation reports)
  • Supporting cost impact analyses and catalog pricing reviews associated with Maintenance Manual and Service Bulletin work scope
  • Ensuring Aftermarket product and process readiness for new Entry into Service products.
  • Supporting Program Engineering Managers with technical and industry information necessary for MRO Tradeshows

Required Skills and Education
  • BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent with at least 7 or more years of relevant experience
  • Eligible to participate in an FAA-mandated drug and alcohol testing program, including random testing
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize system-level knowledge, product fault records, and electronics testing to diagnose complex product and application issues.
  • Ability to perform analysis and diagnostics down to an electronic component level (e.g. analog, digital, power, and communication) using various laboratory equipment (e.g. power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in methodical problem solving and critical thinking
  • Ability to interpret and implement regulatory and requirements specifications
  • General understanding of electronics assembly and test processes
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively multitask / manage personal priorities, and coordinate / organize activities in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop / mentor others

Preferred Skills and Education
  • Familiarity with the assembly and test of high reliability electronic assemblies and their avionics applications
  • Experience using complex analytical tools and methods (SPC, 6 Sigma, Green/Black Belt, etc.)
  • Experience working in a high-paced, repair station environment
  • Experience in Reliability Engineering and associated methods, tools, and techniques
  • Experience using advanced test and analysis instrumentation (spectrum, bus, and logic analyzers, etc.)
  • Experience programming in various software and/or data analytic environments (Basic, UNIX, C++, NI LabVIEW, NI Test Stand, Visual Studio, Python, SQL, etc.)
