Duties, Responsibilities & Other
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer at KCI will lead and perform geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design for a wide range of infrastructure and civil engineering projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, project coordination, and leadership in delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform geotechnical field investigations, engineering evaluations, analyses, and design for projects involving foundations, slopes, ground improvement, support of excavation, retaining structures, pavements, and dams.
  • Perform geo-forensic investigations and assist with legal and expert witness services.
  • Perform pavement engineering evaluations and develop pavement design recommendations.
  • Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports and technical documentation for projects including highways and transportation infrastructure, buildings, tunnels, environmental facilities, water and wastewater infrastructure, dams, landfills, data centers and other civil works.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring geotechnical projects involving both above-ground and underground infrastructure systems.
  • Support project management activities including scope development, cost estimating, budgeting, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring project progress.
  • Lead preparation of technical and cost proposals for geotechnical services.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control of geotechnical analyses, calculations, reports, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal teams and practices, client representatives, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide geotechnical engineering support during construction, including review of field conditions, responding to RFIs, and evaluating contractor submittals.
  • Mentor, train, and oversee junior engineers, field staff, and technicians.
  • Apply and support the use of non-destructive geophysical techniques for subsurface characterization.
  • Perform additional geotechnical engineering tasks and responsibilities as required to support project delivery.

The ideal candidate will come in with these qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, and/or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field, and 10+ years of experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Strong technical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in tandem, and mentor staff.
  • Proficient in using geotechnical analysis and design software.

Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in related field (AEC Industry)
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring engineering projects.
• Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:
• Master's Degree
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
