What is game lore?

Game lore refers to the backstory, world-building, and narrative details that provide depth and context to a video game's universe. It includes the history, myths, cultures, and events that occur within the game's world, often revealed through dialogue, item descriptions, cutscenes, or environmental storytelling. Lore helps players become more immersed in the game by making the setting feel rich and believable. Understanding the lore can also enhance gameplay and appreciation for the story and characters.

How does a game lore writer typically collaborate with game designers and artists during development?

Game Lore Writers work closely with game designers and artists to ensure the story and world-building elements are seamlessly integrated into gameplay and visuals. They often participate in brainstorming sessions, provide background narratives for characters and settings, and review art assets to maintain consistency with the established lore. Effective communication and adaptability are key, as lore may need to evolve based on design changes or player feedback during development. This collaborative process helps create a cohesive and immersive game world.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a game lore writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Game Lore Writer, you need strong storytelling abilities, a solid grasp of world-building, and excellent writing skills, often supported by a background in creative writing or literature. Familiarity with narrative design tools, content management systems, and collaborative platforms like Twine or Scrivener is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication help you craft engaging stories and work closely with game designers and artists. These skills are vital for creating immersive game universes that enhance player engagement and support cohesive gameplay experiences.

Social Media & Community Management
  • Manage and grow social media channels including Instagram, TikTok, and Discord
  • Create, schedule, and manage engaging social content
  • Respond promptly to community inquiries and subscriber communications
  • Foster an active and positive community experience across platforms
  • Help strengthen the HiROQUEST brand voice and audience engagement

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in operations, community management, marketing coordination, brand support, or related roles
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills
  • Experience managing social media platforms and online communities
  • Comfortable writing social copy, product descriptions, and community communications
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-growing startup environment
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • High sense of ownership, initiative, and accountability
  • Passion for anime, trading cards, collectibles, gaming, or pop culture strongly preferred
  • Experience attending or working conventions/card shows is a plus
  • Familiarity with Discord, TikTok, Instagram, and website/content management tools preferred
  • Portfolio or examples of previous content, social media, creative work, or community engagement projects encouraged

Travel Requirements

  • Takes initiative without needing constant direction
  • Is excited to help build and grow a brand/community
  • Can balance operational execution with creativity
  • Enjoys engaging directly with fans and customers
  • Is adaptable, resourceful, and eager to contribute beyond their core responsibilities

The pay range for this role is:
