Game Guide information

What is a game guide?

A Game Guide is responsible for assisting players in navigating in-person or virtual gaming experiences. They provide explanations, set up game sessions, enforce rules, and enhance the overall player experience. Game Guides often work in escape rooms, live-action role-playing games, or video game support services. Their role requires strong communication skills, enthusiasm, and a deep understanding of the game they are guiding.

What does a game guide do?

A typical day for a Game Guide involves scheduling and conducting gaming sessions with players, answering questions, and providing tips to help individuals improve their skills in specific games. Game Guides often work either remotely or at gaming centers, communicating through chat or voice platforms like Discord. Collaboration with other guides and community managers may be required to share best practices or coordinate group events. The role can also include preparing tutorials, monitoring player progress, and giving feedback to ensure a fun and educational client experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the game guide position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Game Guide, you need in-depth knowledge of specific games, strong customer service abilities, and clear communication skills, often supported by prior experience in game tutoring or assistance. Familiarity with popular gaming platforms, in-game communication tools (like Discord), and sometimes screen-sharing software is typically required. Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to adapt your teaching style to different skill levels set top Game Guides apart. These skills help ensure a positive player experience, foster community engagement, and support effective learning outcomes for game clients.

Job description

Amazon Game Studios is looking for a Game Designer - we build exciting new casual and innovative games using Amazon's GameNight phone controller experience as well as traditional controllers. Working with and guiding our development partners, you will innovate new categories in games, including working with best-in-class IP and creating new titles like Courtroom Chaos that utilize pioneering player-facing AI features.
In this role, you will participate in the idea generation of what kind of great games will be best for all kinds of casual game players, with a particular focus on creative design and player-facing AI features that create magical, dynamic gameplay experiences that appeal to non-traditional gaming audiences.

In tandem with Publishing Leadership you will help manage multiple games in development across multiple external partners and work cross functionally with production, art, UX, and tech partners.
The opportunity to delight millions of gamers is massive, but it's also an ambiguous challenge. You will leverage your game design knowledge and expertise to help guide our external development partners in creating innovative experiences for Amazon customers who play games.

Working in a publishing capacity, you'll establish respectful and collaborative relationships with world-class game developers. You thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and will collaborate with stakeholders to resolve ambiguity and balance competing priorities.
Key job responsibilities
Key job responsibilities:
- Partner with and help guide external game developers to ideate, design, and launch great original casual games on Luna including Amazon GameNight experiences
- Design gameplay features that support engaging, accessible gameplay for mass market audiences
- Contribute design ideas that leverage runtime AI to personalize and enhance player experiences, working within the team's creative vision
- Work on multiple concurrent projects and interface with all levels within the organization with candor and respect
About the team
Amazon Game Studios applies the principles of Amazonian culture to the world of game design.

We have a diverse team of talented, creative people pairing their love of making games with the unique strengths that come with being part of Amazon. While innovative AI games are a core pillar to our studio vision, we're also developing games across different genres utilizing world class IP.

Across all of our teams and locations, we are united by a common purpose: to share great gaming experiences with customers around the world. We believe in a future where everyone is a gamer and everyone can create, compete, collaborate and connect through games, and we are looking for the right people to help us build that future. With the power of Luna at your fingertips, you will have the chance to innovate in gameplay, creativity, marketing, and technology, while working alongside some of the smartest and most creative minds in the industry.
