Collins offers an opportunity for an engineering student to gain experience surveying. The Milwaukee, WI office has an opening for a Surveying Intern position for Summer 2026. This position will be a combination of office and time in the field. This position will provide the opportunity to support the survey team by performing field work and the processing of data. Collins Engineer, Inc. provides design and analysis services coupled with field experience to the transportation, marine, construction, and land development industries. Typical duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform field survey work, including network control surveys, right of way plats, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, construction surveys, 3D modeling, and LIDAR scanning.
  • Perform field investigations and surveys to support the creation and maintenance of digital base mapping and parcel mapping.
  • Use various surveying programs to gather, review and process field data.
  • Assist with survey control, quality assurance survey, and volume computations.
  • Assist with conducting construction modeling, staking, and file recordkeeping.
  • Use 3D technologies to identify and resolve conflicts.
  • Assist with conducting topographic mapping, scanning, and modeling.
  • Perform mathematical computations concerning survey measurements and land records.
  • Maintain survey field notes, sketches and other documentation.
  • Maintain, prepare and use surveying equipment.
  • Actively observe and act in an appropriate manner related to safety.

Qualifications

Education and/or experience:

  • Working towards an associate's degree in surveying or CAD technology or related field
  • Working knowledge of Survey data collection procedures
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
  • Experience with Trimble robotic and GPS equipment
