About the Role

The Virtual Designer plays a key role in bringing electrical systems to life through detailed drawings, models, and coordination. This position supports project teams by transforming concepts into accurate, buildable designs that bridge the gap between the office and the field.

A successful Virtual Designer at Gaylor Electric has a foundational understanding of along with entry-level experience using Revit and BIM tools. This role is ideal for someone eager to grow their technical skills in electrical design while collaborating closely with Design Engineers, project managers, engineers, and field personnel.

This position will be an in-person position located in either our Noblesville, IN office or South Bend, IN office. 

Key Responsibilities

Project Documentation & Drawings

  • Review project documents, specifications, and electrical drawings
  • Create, update, and maintain electrical drawings throughout the project lifecycle
  • Prepare and interpret record drawings based on field input
  • Coordinate and distribute drawing sets to internal teams and external partners

Design & Technical Support

  • Develop and update 3D electrical models using Revit
  • Support estimating and scheduling efforts with accurate design updates
  • Back up drawings and maintain organized digital design files
  • Maintain a working knowledge of electrical construction practices and drafting standards

Team Coordination

  • Coordinate required layout and installation points
  • Assist in resolving design conflicts in collaboration as assigned
  • Work independently or as part of a project team to meet schedules and deadlines
  • Coordinate designs with Mechanical, Fire Protection, and Special Systems models

Administrative & Organizational Support

  • Manage and prioritize workload across multiple projects
  • Maintain accurate project records and design documentation
  • Track project deadlines and deliverables
  • Handle all project information with professionalism and confidentiality

Professional Development

  • Continue developing technical and industry knowledge
  • Stay aware of current construction and electrical design trends
  • Strengthen communication, documentation, and coordination skills

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Preferred Experience

  • Entry-level experience with Revit (electrical or construction industry preferred)
  • Exposure to BIM applications
