Position Summary

The Athletic Communications Student Assistant provides support for all athletic communications and game day operations functions for East Texas A&M Athletics. This position assists with statistical operations, live event coverage, digital broadcasts, media relations support, and game day communications responsibilities. The student worker plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely dissemination of game information to fans, media, conference offices, and the NCAA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Game Day Operations

  • Assist with setup and operation of game day communications equipment.
  • Operate NCAA Live Stats and other official statistics software during athletic contests.
  • Serve as scorekeeper, statistician, spotter, or stat caller as assigned.
  • Assist with ESPN+ broadcasts, including graphics, scorebug operation, stat integration, and production support.
  • Support livestream operations for home athletic events.
  • Assist with maintaining official game records and statistics.
  • Coordinate distribution of game notes, statistics, and postgame reports to media and visiting teams.
  • Help monitor game operations from a communications perspective to ensure compliance with conference and NCAA reporting requirements.

Athletic Communications Support

  • Compile and verify statistics for athletic contests.
  • Assist with updating athletic department websites and digital platforms.
  • Support social media coverage during home events.
  • Assist with photography, videography, and content collection for athletic communications purposes.
  • Help prepare game notes, media guides, and other publications.
  • Assist with archival and historical record maintenance.
  • Support special events, media days, and championship hosting responsibilities.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Maintain professionalism when interacting with coaches, student-athletes, officials, media representatives, and fans.
  • Complete assignments accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Communications staff.

Qualifications

  • Current East Texas A&M University student in good academic standing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to learn statistical software, livestreaming platforms, and communications technology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by athletic event schedules.
  • Interest in sports communications, journalism, broadcasting, marketing, or athletic administration preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NCAA Live Stats, StatCrew, Genius Sports, or similar statistical software.
  • Experience with ESPN+ productions or video broadcasting.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation.
  • Knowledge of collegiate athletics and NCAA sports.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during athletic events.
  • Ability to lift and transport communications equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in outdoor and indoor athletic venues under varying weather conditions.
