Job description

Virgin Galactic is seeking talented and motivated Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic 2 to be a part of our GSE team to support our mission. Guided by our values, "Safety above All", we proactively manage the risks inherent in human spaceflight through our daily actions in the design, developing and testing efforts. Establish and share the vision towards a common goal while holding self and others accountable.
As a GSE Mechanic 2, you will be assisting the team in maintaining, repairing, and inspecting all parts of our ground support equipment fleet. You are a key player in our mission to create the world's first space line and opening space for all.
Responsibilities
  • Ensures the timely and quality execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on company owned/leased GSE, and vehicle fleet.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures to determine needed repairs.
  • Keeps and records maintenance records as required within our maintenance tracking software (Limbal, 3DX).
  • Assists with and perform standard to complex mechanical checks with the ability to work with and identify various tools and equipment.
  • Helps with and perform daily preoperational inspection of equipment to ensure serviceability and operational readiness.
  • Fuels and charges assets in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Always maintains a clean and well-organized work area, free of dirt, clutter, and debris where gear and workspace are at a "show room" standard.

You may be asked to perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management.
Required Skills and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant mechanical experience.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record that will pass the criteria set by our insurance carrier for on-the-job coverage, CDL license preferred.
  • Sound ability to interpret and follow printed or electronic maintenance manuals.
  • Have a strong systems mechanical background and show ability to learn and become proficient on new and/or customized equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a safe and efficient workplace.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Displays sound judgment, with the ability to make accurate and timely decisions.
  • Ability to adapt to paperless environment, using tablets to receive and record maintenance tasks via MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) software.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to VG policies and procedures.
  • Proactive, strategic and detail-oriented approaches with a strong commitment to safety, quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups.
  • Ability to use computer applications and MS Office suite of tools.
  • Familiar with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Seeks out diverse perspectives and helps one another win.
  • Holds themselves accountable for assigned work product.

Physical Requirements
  • Work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
  • Travel 25% or more of the time.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position - 8 hours minimum.
  • Able to maneuver in tight spaces through positioning self by stooping, bending, crawling - 3 hours minimum.
  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds (unassisted).

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $53,040.00-$72,665.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
