What is GACP (Good Agricultural and Collection Practices)?

GACP, or Good Agricultural and Collection Practices, are guidelines designed to ensure the quality, safety, and sustainability of medicinal plant materials and other agricultural products. These practices cover the entire process from cultivation and harvesting to post-harvest handling and storage. By following GACP, producers help ensure that plant-derived products are free from contaminants, traceable, and meet regulatory standards. GACP is especially important in industries like herbal medicine, where product purity and consistency are critical for consumer safety.

What are some common challenges faced by a GACP specialist, and how can they be addressed?

GACP professionals often encounter challenges such as ensuring consistent compliance with evolving regulations, training farm staff on best practices, and maintaining detailed documentation for audits. Addressing these challenges requires ongoing education, regular internal audits, and strong communication within the team. Leveraging digital record-keeping systems and fostering a culture of continuous improvement can also help maintain high standards and streamline compliance processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GACP specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GACP specialist, you need a solid understanding of agricultural science, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance, often supported by relevant degrees or certifications in agriculture, agronomy, or related fields. Familiarity with GACP guidelines, quality management systems, and tracking or documentation software is typically required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective communication are key soft skills for ensuring standards are consistently met and documented. These competencies are vital for maintaining product safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in agricultural operations.

What is the difference between Gacp vs GACP?

Gacp and GACP are related roles within healthcare and herbal medicine sectors. Gacp often refers to general healthcare practitioners, while GACP focuses on herbal and traditional medicine. Both require specific certifications and are employed in health-related environments, but GACP emphasizes herbal knowledge and traditional practices more heavily.

Job description

Description
We're looking for a GACP Compliance & Audit Manager to own the certification and internal audit backbone of our quality management system. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role establishes and maintains Good Agricultural and Collection Practices compliance across cultivation and post-harvest, and independently audits the quality system itself.
The GACP Compliance & Audit Manager will directly own GACP certification readiness and maintenance, the internal audit program, the corrective and preventive action process, and traceability from propagation through finished goods. This role also owns the documented readiness assessment against export requirements, including EMA GACP and EU GMP.
This is a builder role for someone who wants to establish a compliance and audit program and the team around it, rather than maintain one that already runs. The responsibilities below capture the core of this role, but as Glass House Brands grows quickly, your scope may evolve to match new opportunities and business needs.
Requirements
What we're looking for:
• Bachelor's degree in agriculture, life sciences, food science, quality management, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years in quality assurance, compliance, or auditing within a regulated production environment such as cannabis, food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or agriculture.
• Direct working experience with GACP, GMP, HACCP, ISO 9001, or an equivalent regulated production standard.
• Demonstrated experience running an internal audit program, including audit planning, execution, findings management, and closure.
• Working knowledge of CAPA methodology and structured root cause analysis.
• Certified auditor credential such as ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or ASQ CQA, or experience preparing an operation for initial certification, preferred.
• Conversational Spanish a plus.
• Valid California driver's license and the ability to travel regularly between our Camarillo and Carpinteria sites.
• Ability to work in greenhouse and post-harvest environments, including heat, humidity, and extended periods of standing and walking, with required personal protective equipment.
Skills:
• Able to read a standard and translate it into what a person on the floor must actually do and record.
• Rigorous, evidence-based approach to findings, with the confidence to hold a position under pressure.
• Strong written communication for audit reports, findings, and regulatory correspondence.
• Ability to build cooperative working relationships with the teams being audited.
• Sound risk judgment - able to distinguish a finding that matters from one that does not.
• Strong organizational skills to run a multi-site audit calendar alongside certification activity.
• Comfortable working in production areas and gathering evidence at the point of work.
Personal Attributes:
• High integrity, particularly when a finding is inconvenient.
• Independent judgment, with the willingness to escalate rather than absorb a risk.
• Thorough and consistent without becoming bureaucratic.
• A collaborative approach that treats compliance as shared work rather than enforcement.
Why Join Us
As GACP Compliance & Audit Manager, you'll build the compliance foundation our quality system and our access to future markets depend on.
You'll:
• Establish GACP compliance at one of the largest cannabis greenhouse operations in the country.
• Build an internal audit program from the ground up, with a defined mandate and direct executive visibility.
• Create the controlled foundation - internal audit, corrective action, traceability - that export certification requires.
• Work where compliance and operations meet, with direct access to the leaders who can change the process.
