Funnel Design information

What is funnel design?

Funnel design refers to the process of creating a strategic path that guides potential customers through various stages, from initial awareness to making a purchase or taking a desired action. This involves designing and optimizing landing pages, email sequences, and calls to action to maximize conversions and user engagement. Effective funnel design helps businesses streamline their marketing and sales processes, identify areas for improvement, and increase revenue by nurturing leads more efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a funnel designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Funnel Designer, you need a solid understanding of digital marketing, conversion optimization, and user experience principles, typically supported by experience in sales funnels and marketing strategies. Familiarity with funnel-building platforms like ClickFunnels, Leadpages, and analytics tools such as Google Analytics is essential. Strong communication, creativity, and analytical thinking help you craft compelling user journeys and collaborate effectively with teams. These skills ensure that funnels are both technically sound and strategically designed to maximize conversions and achieve business goals.

What are some common challenges faced by funnel designers and how can they be addressed?

Funnel designers often face challenges such as aligning marketing strategies with user experience, optimizing conversion rates, and collaborating with cross-functional teams like sales and development. Navigating frequent changes in campaign goals or target audiences can also add complexity. To address these challenges, it's essential to maintain clear communication with stakeholders, regularly analyze funnel metrics, and stay updated on best practices in user journey mapping and A/B testing. Leveraging collaboration tools and feedback loops can help ensure the funnel design remains effective and meets business objectives.

What is the difference between Funnel Design vs Web Design?

While Funnel Design focuses on creating effective sales funnels to maximize conversions, Web Design involves designing the overall look and feel of websites. Both roles require a good understanding of user experience, but Funnel Design is more specialized in marketing strategies and conversion tactics, whereas Web Design emphasizes visual aesthetics and site functionality.

How to start as a funnel design?

To start as a funnel designer, develop skills in marketing, user experience, and graphic design, and learn to use tools like ClickFunnels or Figma. Building a portfolio of funnel projects and gaining experience through online courses or certifications can help establish credibility in the field.

Is funnel design in demand?

Funnel design is in high demand as businesses increasingly rely on digital marketing and sales funnels to optimize customer journeys. Professionals skilled in tools like ClickFunnels, Leadpages, or HubSpot, and with knowledge of conversion rate optimization, are sought after in marketing and sales roles.

What does a funnel design do?

A funnel designer creates visual representations of sales or marketing processes to guide potential customers through each stage, from awareness to conversion. They use tools like flowcharts and software to optimize user experience and improve conversion rates, often collaborating with marketing and sales teams.

Job description

Klaviyo is seeking a Lead MarTech & AI Solutions Architect — an individual contributor role for someone who wants deep, hands-on ownership. In this role, you\'ll design and build the end-to-end architecture of how marketing data moves through our systems, from initial lead and data intake through to conversion, embedding AI and automation directly into that journey to accelerate it.

In this role, you\'ll also architect and own a centralized marketing hub spanning the full marketing lifecycle — from budget allocation and planning, through campaign execution, to using performance insights to accelerate the next planning cycle and improve ROI.

This role carries high ownership and visibility: you\'re the architect who understands how every system connects, why it\'s built that way, and where it needs to go next — building the technical foundation that turns customer journeys and personalization, planning cycles, and cross-functional decisions into a single, connected ecosystem.

How You'll Make a Difference
  • Design and build AI-powered marketing capabilities into our systems, from generative AI use cases to predictive scoring and intent-based automation, that accelerate the intake-to-conversion journey.
  • Serve as the technical owner of how marketing systems integrate with one another — proactively catching where data breaks or logic conflicts, and implementing the architectural solutions needed to evolve the ecosystem to support business growth.
  • Build and connect an ecosystem that accelerates customer journeys through personalization across the funnel — leveraging behavioral, product, and intent signals to maximize acquisition, conversion, and expansion
  • Turn performance data and business requirements into architecture and process improvements that shorten planning cycles and improve marketing ROI.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Lifecycle, Marketing Analytics, Sales Ops, and other technical teams to align system architecture with business needs — representing the technical point of view in planning and governance conversations.
  • Perform solution architecture reviews and serve as a critical advisor on technical design decisions — flagging trade-offs and ensuring alignment across systems, teams, and outcomes
  • Build and own a centralized marketing hub spanning the entire execution lifecycle: budget allocation and planning, campaign execution, and the feedback loop that turns performance insights into faster planning cycles.
Who You Are
  • 8+ years of experience in MarTech, with demonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale system architecture — not just implementing tools, but architecting how data, process, and strategy connect across the full marketing lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience designing and building AI-powered marketing capabilities, from generative AI use cases to predictive scoring and intent-based automation, that solve real marketing problems.
  • Deep experience architecting HubSpot, Salesforce, and in-house systems at scale, including lead scoring, lifecycle automation, customer journey and personalization, campaign/opportunity data models, and cross-system data association.
  • Strong understanding of marketing budgeting, planning cycles, and ROI measurement — able to connect spend data directly to performance outcomes through architectural decisions.
  • Experience building scalable integrations — using APIs and middleware — across marketing systems (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce, NetSuite, Coupa).
  • A proven track record contributing to vendor evaluation and platform implementation for enterprise organizations.
  • A natural cross-functional partner — able to sit with cross-functional teams, translate their requirements into system architecture, and be the technical advisor they trust.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
