Job description
Position Summary:
As Director of Development, you will put your proven sales and relationship management skills to work driving success and achieving revenue goals through positive engagement with staff and community volunteer leaders throughout Northwest Ohio, Cleveland Ohio and Greater East Ohio.
Utilizing your proven networking skills, you will identify and cultivate relationships with key community leaders and C-Suite corporate partners effectively. This position will be responsible for (6) Walk to End Alzheimer’s events and Do What You Love To End Alzheimer’s. As a recognized leader and fundraiser in the peer-to-peer space, you will coach and inspire your team to build successful event growth strategies through community and volunteer engagement.
You join a high performing team of leaders responsible for the implementation of Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research; Do What You Love to End ALZ, a signature event of the Alzheimer’s Association, and is one of the fastest growing and unique campaigns of its kind; and Relationship Events/Gala initiatives.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s® ranks as the second-largest peer-to-peer fundraising event in the United States and continues to set the pace as one of the fastest-growing walk events in the country. Do What You Love to End ALZ is leading the peer-to-peer fundraising space with innovation and creativity, providing an excellent opportunity to engage new audiences in the fight to end Alzheimer’s among many diverse activity groups, from the golfing and hiking communities to live streamers and bridge players.
In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for successful implementation of Walk to End Alzheimer’s® and Do What You Love to End ALZ to meet or exceed goals through staff training, coaching and mentoring as well as volunteer recruitment and empowerment, team and individual fundraising cultivation, and through the diligent execution of strategies that align with best and proven practices. You will contribute your professional fundraising leadership experience in leading, coaching and mentoring your team of (6) professional development staff.
This position is a perfect fit for a purpose-driven, mission-minded people leader who inspires others to take initiative to achieve positive and measurable results, demonstrates a positive attitude and takes a pro-active approach to responsibility ownership.
This role is right for you if;
- You are an enthusiastic and active member of the community, utilizing your engaging networking skills to build sustainable corporate and community partnerships to achieve organizational revenue goals
- You are able to drive success and provide positive engagement with staff and volunteers through coaching, recognition, and mutual accountability
- You have successfully recruited, managed, and coached fundraising staff and volunteers to effectively implement best and proven practices to achieve fundraising goals with a priority on Peer-to-Peer initiatives
- You are known as a uniter and have successfully built a positive, healthy, and inclusive team environment
- Your experience in providing inspirational leadership, oversight and implementation of fundraising programs has resulted in meeting or exceeding revenue goals around mass market events/special events, corporate sponsorship and other corporate gifts, pipeline development for major and planned gifts and other areas of development
- You have proven success at building sustainable corporate and community relationships that contribute to achieving event revenue goals, greater community participation and heightened brand awareness
- You have managed or are capable of managing multiple volunteer-led mass-market events simultaneously that have resulted in revenue growth year over year
- You embrace a challenge and have achieved or surpassed designated revenue and participant goals through team and individual fundraising, corporate solicitation, and community partnerships
- You have demonstrated success at prospecting, cultivating and stewarding event teams, sponsors and participants
- You have excellent communication and organization skills and are comfortable with managing event budgets, training volunteers, working to set timelines and milestones and using data to affect positive outcomes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in sales/business or related field.
- 5-7 years of proven experience recruiting and mobilizing volunteers and community leaders to achieve goals, preferably in a peer-to-peer fundraising environment OR successful experience leading a team to meet sales targets
- Experience with mass market events like Walk is required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated management skills, including the ability to set clear goals, organize projects, establish and manage budgets, and establish accountability processes
- Ability to supervise and manage Walk to End Alzheimer’s & Do What You Love staff, including onboarding, training and development
- A proven track record at building sustainable corporate and community relationships that contribute to achieving organizational and revenue goals
- Proven track record of developing and implementing strategies for identifying, recruiting and engaging high-level and C-Suite volunteer leadership,
- Enthusiastic willingness to work with diverse communities and build an inclusive environment
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% within the assigned territory by car. While most such travel is same day, occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required. Must have valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for the job
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift and transport up to 25 lbs of materials
- Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products and social media; experience with, or ability to rapidly learn, Luminate/Convio software

Position Grade & Compensation: Grade 209 The Alzheimer's Association’s good faith expectation for the salary range for this role is between $100,000 – $110,000
There is a performance-based incentive opportunity up to $13,000, depending on portfolio size and achievement of quarterly goals.
