Position Summary

Carlyle AlpInvest’s Finance & Operations team is seeking an experienced VP-level professional to support the Portfolio Finance business within AlpInvest. This Fund Management/Fund Controller role will work directly with investment professionals, Portfolio Management, Finance, Tax, Legal, and external parties to ensure AlpInvest’s Portfolio Finance deals and funds are properly managed from funding to exit. The role will also partner closely with other members of the AlpInvest Operations team on daily operational functions across Primaries, Secondaries, and Co‑Investment strategies. This position requires strong accounting and finance experience, working knowledge of the private credit industry, sound organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to build rapport with investors, third‑party administrators, and various stakeholders across the firm. The individual will take full ownership of assigned responsibilities and support the development of junior team members.

ResponsibilitiesFund Management / Operations
  • Actively facilitate the deal close process for Portfolio Finance transactions, including liquidity analysis, due diligence, bank account setup, and other steps required in coordination with the deal team, legal, treasury, investor relations, and tax.
  • Coordinate with investment team, legal/tax counsel, and middle office operations team to plan and execute fund and deal closings including legal entity structuring.
  • Assist with the formation process for all new entities and prepare documentation needed for internal Legal Entity approval; coordinate establishment of tax documentation (W8, W9) for all entities.
  • Coordinate liquidity management with the portfolio management and treasury team, including fund‑specific liquidity forecasts, credit facility usage and repayment, capital calls, and distributions.
  • Oversee borrowing/repayment requests and compliance reporting across multiple credit facilities.
  • Support investment and trade capture and activity processing in systems of record.
  • Monitor legal compliance with various fund agreements and side letter arrangements.
  • Coordinate with Investor Relations on the closing of newly admitted LPs and assist with diligence requests.
  • Review revenue projection models and budgeting and re‑forecasting files.
  • Assist in budget and revenue forecasting for FP&A.
  • Broadly support the team in building more efficient processes across functions and sufficiently documenting procedures and policies.
  • Assist in strategic initiatives related to technology and process enhancements.
Fund Accounting / Financial Reporting / Investor Reporting
  • Review quarterly fund closes based on data received from the TPA, including review of related support for all balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Review accrued and realized carry calculations from the TPA.
  • Review capital allocations and capital statements prepared by TPA.
  • Review financial statements and related footnotes.
  • Facilitate the preparation and review of investor communications including quarterly reporting, annual meeting materials, LPAC meeting materials, and marketing‑related schedules and exhibits.
  • Maintain fund gross and net models for all reporting needs, including fund performance summaries used by stakeholders across the firm.
  • Coordinate interim and year‑end audit requests and address questions from external auditors, including coordination for SOX and SOC1 testing.
  • Ad hoc investor requests for ongoing reporting as well as due diligence materials.
  • Assist with SMA reporting requirements.
Valuation Review and Support
  • Review and support the valuation team in the annual/quarterly valuation process, including maintaining joint venture model waterfalls.
  • Responsible for preparation of valuation committee materials as well as approval by valuation committee.
  • Assist with year‑end audit with respect to valuation‑related audit questions and requests.
Management Company Reporting
  • Coordinate corporate deliverables and disclosures for firm’s public company reporting.
  • Review monthly management fee, expense accruals, and quarterly budget analysis as it relates to respective funds.
  • Manage the monthly working capital review and quarterly billing of expense reimbursements and management fees with Corporate Accounting.
Tax Reporting
  • Coordinate with in‑house and external tax teams on annual review of tax workbooks detailing book to tax differences, tax returns, partner K‑1s, and state and local tax allocations.
RequirementsEducation & Certificates
  • Bachelor’s degree, required.
  • Concentration in Finance or Accounting, preferred.
  • CPA, preferred.
Professional Experience
  • 10+ years of overall relevant experience, required.
  • Experience in Financial Services, required.
  • Preferred Experience with Private Equity and Fund of Funds structures.
  • Preferred Experience working with third‑party administrators.
  • Preferred Experience with fund accounting and Investran.
  • Experience in alternatives; familiar with fund accounting/GP/LP structures.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP with an emphasis on accounting for both closed/open‑ended fund structures.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite.
Benefits / Compensation
  • Anticipated base salary range: $180,000 to $200,000 (location specific to New York).
