Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Electrical Engineer - Level 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

As a Principle Electrical Engineer you will support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts working within an Agile environment. Your core tasks will entail developing and maintaining Electrical drawings for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and their interfaces with facilities. Under the direction of your program leadership, responsibilities include performing analyses IAW industry and military standards, developing rack/system level drawings, maintaining drawings PLM system, evaluating hardware design efforts, scheduling, planning required tasks, leading small teams, and writing reports to support milestone reviews. Accountability and active participation in team meetings and internal/external demos, and documenting progress on team dashboards is expected.

Essential Functions:

  • Under the direction of your program leadership, responsibilities include performing analyses IAW industry and military standards.
  • Develop design drawings, maintaining drawings, evaluating hardware design efforts, scheduling, and planning required tasks.
  • Leading small teams and writing reports to support milestone reviews.
  • Accountability and active participation in team meetings and internal/external demos, and documenting progress on team dashboards is expected.
  • Generate engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  • Mentoring and cross-training junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's STEM Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a STEM PhD.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
  • Must be able to support an in-office / closed-area work environment full-time.
  • Ability to communicate data in a clear and concise manner.
  • 5 years of recentprofessionalexperience using a CAD Package such as Visio, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CREO, Siemens Capital Suites (Logic/Harness), or NX to develop technical drawings
  • Experience in two or more of the following areas: electrical/power system design, network communication system design, cable harness fabrication design, and perform electrical load analysis.
  • Experience reviewing engineering specifications, electrical schematics and/or drawings with the ability to translate customer driven requirements into specifications.
  • Understanding and application of industry and company electrical engineering technical standards and procedures; demonstrated electrical component design experience and impact assessment / trade studies development.
  • Prior experience with engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP system such as SAP.
  • Experience evaluating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and military parts for compliance to meet requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Team, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Recent experience leading a small project, including task and schedule planning, to meet major project milestone objectives
  • Mentoring and cross-training junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.
  • Recent experience generating engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, technical reports, test procedures, program procedures, and CDRLS.
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process)
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1901A, MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, IEEE 802.3u, IEEE 802.3ab, TEMPEST 01-13, NEC
  • Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS
  • Experience modeling with Cameo Enterprise Architecture, Visio or other architecture modeling tools
  • Experience in documenting Interface Control Documents, Interface Requirement Specifications, and Interface Description Documents
  • Experience with Agile Development
Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
