Job description

JW Marriot Desert Springs, located in Palm Desert, CA, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a Full-Time Tennis/Pickleball Professional! We are seeking a driven individual who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a fast-paced hospitality-focused property organization. As part of Troon, you'll contribute to a global leader in golf and community management.
Compensation: $18.00 to $43.00 per hour
Position Summary:Deliver an exceptional Tennis / Pickleball experience through high-quality instruction and outstanding customer service. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of programs such as junior classes, private lessons, clinics, and special events. This position will be heavier on tennis than pickleball, but most likely some pickleball hours will be needed. Some tennis teaching is great, but a fantastic attitude is even more important. This is a PBI site, and PBI concepts (which are NOT based on form but on fundamentals that work for every player and in every situation) will be taught. Professionals will get a ton of group teaching experience on a wide variety of tennis subjects. This is a great proving ground for a tennis professional.
Essential Duties:
  • Provides beginning through advanced instruction (private and group) for all levels of players.
  • Assists in the promotion of and conducting Tennis and Pickleball clinics, private lessons, special events and programs to attract and maintain members'/guests' Tennis and Pickleball interests.
  • Develops safe, professional, and comprehensive Tennis and Pickleball lessons and programs to ensure students develop along a pathway that will encourage continued involvement in tennis.
  • Assists in supervising play and ensures proper charging of fees.
  • Ensure students understand tennis rules, scoring procedures, safety rules and tennis etiquette.
  • Enforces all club rules and regulations governing the use of the club/facility, its equipment and other property.
  • Performs racquet stringing.
  • Quickly and efficiently responds to member/guest questions, comments, and concerns.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Demonstrate positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education/Experience:
  • Minimum 1-year experience required.

Physical Demands:
  • Frequently stands, walks, uses hands, talks, hears, reaches with hands and arms, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.
  • Occasionally sits.
  • Regularly lifts up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.

Environment/Noise:
  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Noise level is moderate.

Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences:
  • Ability to read and speak English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the staff may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment used are in English). Skill level equivalent to a minimum 4.0 USTA rating.
