Position Overview
Achievers Early College Prep is seeking a driven, mission-aligned High School Audio Engineering / STEAM Teacher to develop and lead an Audio & Video Production pathway. This educator will deliver rigorous, project-based instruction that blends technical skill-building with creativity, preparing students for postsecondary pathways in media, technology, and communications.
This role requires a teacher who embraces accountability, builds strong relationships with students, and maintains a structured, high-expectations classroom where all students can achieve at a high level.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
  • Design and deliver standards-aligned, college-preparatory curriculum in:
    • Audio engineering (recording, mixing, mastering)
    • Video production (filming, editing, post-production)
    • Digital media and multimedia storytelling
    • STEAM integration within media arts and technology
  • Implement rigorous, project-based learning experiences such as:
    • Podcast and music production
    • Film, documentary, and video content creation
    • Live sound and school-based media production
    • Portfolio development aligned to college and career readiness

Student Achievement & Culture
  • Set and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for all students
  • Use data-driven instruction to monitor progress and adjust teaching practices
  • Provide targeted support to ensure all students master course standards
  • Build a classroom culture grounded in respect, accountability, and excellence

Program Development
  • Build and manage a high-quality audio/video production lab or studio
  • Maintain equipment and ensure safe, responsible use of technology
  • Stay current with industry tools and trends in media production
  • Expand opportunities for students through real-world projects and partnerships

School Community
  • Collaborate with staff to integrate STEAM across content areas
  • Support school-wide initiatives, events, and productions (A/V needs, performances, etc.)
  • Lead or support extracurricular opportunities (media club, podcasting, broadcasting)
  • Participate fully in professional development, coaching, and school culture initiatives
Qualifications (New Jersey Certification Alignment)
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Media Production, Film, Music Technology, or related field
  • One of the following:
    • Valid New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or
    • Valid New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS), or
    • Standard New Jersey Instructional Certificate
  • Appropriate endorsement (preferred areas include):
    • Technology Education
    • Career and Technical Education (CTE)
    • Teacher of Broadcasting/Film (or related, if applicable)
  • Ability to obtain proper certification in New Jersey if not currently certified
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in an urban or charter school setting
  • Professional experience in audio engineering, music production, film, or digital media
  • Experience with project-based or STEAM-focused instruction
  • Familiarity with industry tools such as:
    • DAWs (Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton)
    • Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition)
  • Experience building or managing a media lab or studio
