Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor position is being hired for the online Master of Social Work (MSW) track and will report directly to the Department Chair with ongoing support provided by the Assistant Program Director - Online MSW track. Online clinical faculty will be primarily responsible for teaching online asynchronous courses. All faculty positions are are actively engaged in teaching, service, and scholarship.
Job Description and Responsibilities Include:
  • Teach online asynchronous and/or hybrid courses in areas of expertise, using innovative teaching modalities.
  • Create or co-create online asynchronous and/or hybrid course content materials in the areas of expertise, including but not limited to:
  • Course syllabi
    • Managing online course and course content
    • Reading assignments
    • Recorded and/or live lectures
    • Outlines, scripts, voice-over, podcasts, and similar
    • Quizzes and exams
    • Discussion boards
    • Assignments
    • Assessments
    • Student support and guidance
    • Instructions and overview
    • Other teaching material
  • Create a student-centered learning environment, responsive to student needs in asynchronous and hybrid environments
  • Prepare lectures, power points, videos, course content and other technology utilized to enhance teaching
  • Engaging regularly with students through online forums, communication, discussion activities, virtual meetings
  • Grading learning activities and providing timely and constructive feedback
  • Mentor student-directed scholarly work
  • Academic advising
  • Work closely with Assistant Program Director - Online MSW Track for advising as needed
  • Actively engage in personal scholarship
  • Actively engage in service activities as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited institution
  • PhD in Social Work or Doctorate in Social Work
  • 2 years post-MSW social work practitioner experience in the field of social work.
  • 2-year teaching experience in social work education full-time or part-time in asynchronous programs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Social Work
  • 2 or more years of experience in social work education, teaching asynchronously and synchronously.
  • Practice experience within one or more of the following areas:
    • Research methods
    • Medical/hospital social work
    • Community health
    • Behavioral health and integrated systems
    • Program evaluation and management
    • Policy and advocacy work
  • Demonstrated experience in online curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Experience in academic advising and student support services.
  • Experience with online learning management systems, education platforms and technologies.
  • Experience with online pedagogy and tools
  • Content expertise in generalist or specialized courses including but not limited to:
    • Research methods
    • Health and social welfare policy and advocacy
    • Research and evaluation
    • Healthcare-focused social work practice
    • Behavioral health-focused social work practice
    • Social work within health and aging
    • School-based social work practice
    • Trauma-informed practice
    • Substance use assessment and treatment
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

While this is an online position, Pacific's three campuses are within California and its faculty and staff are mostly California residents. For administrative purposes, California residents are preferred. Out of state hires must be approved either by the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs (for academic hires) or by the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Finance and Operations.
Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using a computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
Hiring Range
$100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
