The Position:
Under general or direct supervision promotes, organizes and leads a variety of recreational activities at a recreation center or other facility; conducts activities within assigned groups and performs related work as required.
THIS IS AN AT-WILL/TEMPORARY/NON-BENEFITED POSITION
LIMITED TO 1000 HOURS PER FISCAL YEAR

Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and will remain on file for three months from the date received and are reviewed when there is a need to fill a vacancy. After the three month period, applicants are encouraged to re-apply for Community Services Leader Series.
The Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for the below divisions:
Fullerton Community Center:Applicants selected for Fullerton Community Center positions will deliver high-quality customer service while supporting a diverse patron base at the Parks & Recreation Department's primary resource hub, which houses the Fullerton Senior Club, Boys & Girls Club of Fullerton, and the Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team's indoor facility. Staff assist with facility and event setup for classes, rentals, and City events; manage bookings and site tours; and ensure smooth operations through effective communication, problem-solving, and equipment oversight. Responsibilities also include supporting senior, wellness, and contract programming, as well as youth, teen, after-school, and summer programs, which may involve planning activities and events, coordinating volunteers and donations, creating marketing content, and performing administrative tasks such as data collection and analysis. Hours vary and often include evenings, weekends, and holidays, with staff expected to support City-sponsored special events throughout the year.
Park and Trail:Applicants selected for the Park and Trail position will be providing supportive and maintenance services to City park, trail, and sports facility users. Park and Trail staff may work at the front counter of a sports facility and/or provide supportive services to multiple facilities. Front counter duties may include taking reservations, selling concessions, answering inquiries, and making sure facilities are clean and operational. Supportive service duties may include opening and closing park facilities, equipment transport and set-up, sports field or court preparation (turf painting, chalking, infield grooming, and tennis court washing), minor repairs, and inspections. The position may require driving a city vehicle. Hours worked per week may vary and may include evenings and weekends. Park and Trail staff members will be called upon to work various City-sponsored special events, including some holidays.
City Special Events:The City of Fullerton is seeking part-time recreation professionals to help oversee special events. Incumbents perform professional work in the development, administration, and preparation of a wide range of special events. Incumbents participate in the organization, coordination or day of logistics of department events, programs, and projects. Incumbents also assist with site logistics including event set up and tear down, interacting with the public, and are required to work several holidays, nights and weekends. The position provides the opportunity to gain quality experience working in a Parks & Recreation environment while making a direct impact in the community. This position works closely with department coordinators and may participate in other Parks & Recreation program offerings.
Employment Guidelines
Any combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is:
Completion of the 10th grade
AND
Some group leadership experience working with children or adults.
Special Requirements:
  • Depending on assignment, a valid and appropriate class C California Driver's License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position depending on area of assignment. Employees required to drive will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Pull Notice Program.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs to include weekends, holidays, evenings and overtime. Must be available to work on July fourth and December 31st.
  • Valid and appropriate CPR certificate and a valid and appropriate first aid certificate within 60 days of appointment, issued by a source acceptable to the City and renewals as required depending on the area assigned.
  • Successful passage of a Parks and Recreation Department pre-employment screening process depending on the area assigned.
  • Current negative tuberculin test at time of appointment and additional tuberculin screening as required by the Parks and Recreation Department depending on the area assigned.
