Job description

Maintenance Assistant
Full-Time | Wichita, KS | Entry Level
The Opportunity
Occidental Management is a Wichita-based commercial real estate and property management firm, and we're hiring a Maintenance Assistant to join our Wichita facilities maintenance team. This is a full-time, hourly role where you'll work alongside experienced technicians across a diverse commercial property portfolio — from seasonal grounds care to hands-on building system maintenance.
If you have some experience in landscaping or building maintenance and you're ready to take the next step into a career in commercial facilities management, this role offers real mentorship, growing responsibilities, and a company that invests in its people.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Keeping properties looking sharp — maintaining plant beds, trees, shrubs, and grounds through seasonal peaks.
  • Riding along on inspections and helping Maintenance Technicians identify and report issues before they become bigger problems.
  • Assisting with service calls and emergency maintenance situations as they arise.
  • Supporting the maintenance, installation, and basic operation of commercial building systems — think HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • Learning how to properly use and care for all the tools and equipment that come with the job.
  • Growing your skills with an eye toward eventually taking on more independent responsibilities.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience in commercial property maintenance, landscaping for commercial clients, or a similar role.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record — you'll be behind the wheel of a company vehicle daily.
  • Basic computer skills: responding to emails in Outlook and working with simple Word or PDF documents.
  • The physical ability to do the work — lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders and stairs, moving between properties, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working alongside experienced technicians.
Why Occidental Management
Occidental Management is a vertically integrated commercial real estate firm — we handle what we do best in-house, and that includes developing our own people. This role comes with real exposure to commercial building systems, a team of experienced technicians to learn from, competitive hourly pay, health coverage, paid time off, and continuing education reimbursement. For the right person, it's a strong foundation for a long career in facilities management.
