Is AI replacing web devs?

AI tools are increasingly automating certain tasks in web development, such as code generation and testing, but they do not replace the need for full-time web developers. Web developers are still essential for designing, customizing, and maintaining websites, especially those requiring complex functionality and user experience considerations. Proficiency in programming languages, frameworks, and problem-solving remains crucial in the field.

Is web development still worth it in 2026?

Web development remains a valuable career in 2026, as demand for websites and web applications continues to grow across industries. Full-time web developers with skills in modern frameworks, responsive design, and cloud integration are likely to find ongoing job opportunities, especially with experience in programming languages like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Staying updated with emerging technologies and certifications can enhance job prospects in this evolving field.

What does a full time web developer do?

A full time web developer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining websites and web applications. They work with programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and often back-end languages like Python, PHP, or Ruby. Their daily tasks may include developing new website features, troubleshooting issues, collaborating with designers and other developers, and ensuring websites are optimized for performance and usability. Full time web developers often stay updated with the latest web technologies and trends to deliver effective digital solutions.

What is the difference between Full Time Web Developer vs Part Time Web Developer?

AspectFull Time Web DeveloperPart Time Web Developer
Work HoursTypically 35-40 hours per weekLess than 30 hours per week
Employment StatusFull-time employeePart-time employee or freelancer
CredentialsUsually requires a degree in web development or related fieldMay have similar credentials but often less formal education required
Work EnvironmentOffice or remote, with regular hoursFlexible, often remote or freelance projects

Full Time Web Developers work standard hours as full-time employees, often with benefits and a consistent schedule. Part Time Web Developers work fewer hours, typically on a freelance or contract basis, offering more flexibility but less job security. Both roles require similar technical skills, but employment structure and hours differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Web Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Web Developer, you need a strong grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant programming languages, typically backed by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, version control systems like Git, and web development tools such as Visual Studio Code is essential. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with teams and translating client requirements into functional websites. These combined skills ensure the delivery of reliable, user-friendly web solutions that meet business objectives and maintain project efficiency.

What are some common challenges faced by full-time web developers, and how can they be managed?

Full-time web developers often encounter challenges such as tight project deadlines, rapidly evolving technologies, and balancing multiple projects simultaneously. Managing these challenges typically involves strong time management skills, continuous learning to stay updated with new frameworks or languages, and effective communication with team members to clarify requirements and delegate tasks. Many teams also use agile methodologies to break down projects into manageable sprints, which helps in tracking progress and adjusting workloads as needed.

Is 40 too old to become a web developer?

Full Time Web Developers can start at any age, including 40 or older, as the profession values skills, problem-solving, and continuous learning. Many successful developers have transitioned into the field later in life by acquiring relevant coding skills, certifications, and building portfolios. Age is generally not a barrier to entering web development, which offers flexible schedules and diverse opportunities.

Is there still a demand for web developers?

Web developers are in high demand due to ongoing digital transformation, with many companies seeking skills in front-end and back-end development, as well as proficiency in languages like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The role remains essential for creating and maintaining websites and web applications across various industries.

Why join us? We’re on a mission to shape the future of voice, and we’re building a team that’s curious, collaborative, and passionate about making great ideas heard.

About the Role
As a Web Developer, you’ll join a high-performing development team organized into cross-functional teams and focused on building and evolving modern full-stack web applications that directly support our customers and internal teams. You’ll work primarily with modern PHP, JavaScript/Node.js, CSS, and databases to build systems used every day across the business. Your work will be visible, meaningful, and impactful.

We care deeply about quality, steady delivery, and continuous improvement. You’ll collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, QA, and Support to deliver well-tested, maintainable solutions, take ownership of the features you build, and help improve the systems you work on. You’ll report to the Manager, Application Development and be part of a team that values high standards, practical problem solving, and strong collaboration.

Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the following key areas:

Application Development
  • Build and maintain customer-facing and internal user interfaces using HTML, CSS (LESS/SASS), JavaScript, and React.
  • Develop and extend applications using modern PHP frameworks (e.g., Laravel) and supporting scripts.
  • Design, build, and maintain internal APIs and third-party integrations (e.g., Salesforce and cloud services across AWS and GCP).
  • Build new product features and pages, taking ownership of the areas you develop from implementation through deployment and follow-up.
Quality, Testing & Security
  • Write and maintain automated tests (unit and integration) to ensure code quality and reliability.
  • Apply accessibility (AODA, WCAG) and security (OWASP) best practices to deliver inclusive and secure applications.
  • Test, optimize, and improve application performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Review and triage support issues, debug and resolve defects, and collaborate with Product and Support teams.
Development Practices & Delivery
  • Write and maintain database migration scripts and support release planning in collaboration with QA and Product teams.
  • Contribute to build tooling and development workflows, suggesting improvements where appropriate.
  • Work within established Git workflows, actively participating in code reviews by submitting and reviewing pull requests.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, and documentation.
Documentation & Collaboration
  • Document technical decisions, APIs, and implementation details.
  • Contribute to and help maintain shared libraries, including our internal component library and design system.

What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who brings some or all of the following:
  • You want to ship regularly. Your passion is to build end-to-end software. You always want to improve and learn.
  • You understand the importance of quality code. Your code is documented, understandable and predictable. Tests are written with confidence.
  • You’re comfortable with a varied and modern stack. You have production-level experience in PHP, JavaScript/Node.js, React, and SQL, and containerized workloads.
  • You have experience writing and maintaining build, migration, and automation scripts to support development and deployments.
  • You’re familiar with cloud computing fundamentals (e.g., queues, background jobs, caching, object storage) and how they support reliable web applications.
  • You can explain your thinking. You are able to communicate your ideas or issues well.
  • Your goal is to build for everyone. You are skilled in developing both front-end and back-end solutions from scratch to create valid, reusable, performant, and accessible systems.
  • You are self-motivated and can work independently. You take the initiative to make sure that you have everything you need and will call for support when required.
  • You love learning. You thrive on solving problems, learning new tricks, bridging the gaps between new and old, and want to keep getting even better.
  • You love sharing. Helping your team based on your experience is time well spent.
  • You have 3+ years experience in database-driven web application development.
  • You earned a BS or MS in Computer Science, Diploma in Web Development or have the equivalent work experience.
