Join Our Team as a Water/Wastewater Operator II
Join the City of Fair Oaks Ranch as a Full-Time Water/Wastewater Operator II and apply your technical knowledge and hands-on experience to the essential water and wastewater systems our community relies on every day. This onsite position offers an exciting opportunity to perform meaningful work while helping ensure the continued safety, reliability, and efficiency of the City's utility services.
With an annual salary of $54,735, you will be rewarded for your expertise, dependability, and commitment to public service. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Flexible Spending Account, Paid Time Off, and participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System, with a 7% mandatory employee contribution and a 2:1 City match.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, licensed operator who values safety, integrity, teamwork, and service to the community.
City of Fair Oaks Ranch: Our Mission
The City of Fair Oaks Ranch is a vibrant Hill Country community located just northwest of San Antonio, combining small-town charm with convenient access to urban amenities. We take pride in providing exceptional public service, practicing fiscal responsibility, and preserving the natural beauty and unique character of our city.
As an employer, we foster a collaborative and professional work environment where innovation, integrity, and excellent service are valued. Join our dedicated team and become part of a community that values both its people and its progress.
What's Your Day Like?
As a Water/Wastewater Operator II, you will take an active role in operating, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the City's water supply, treatment and distribution systems, as well as its wastewater treatment and collection facilities.
Your responsibilities may include inspecting and repairing wells, reservoirs, pumping stations, meters, chlorination systems, wastewater pump stations, gauges, pumps, filters, valves, and other treatment equipment. You will help maintain water quality by collecting and testing water and wastewater samples in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.
You will monitor treatment plant equipment, gauges, and operational charts; record and analyze plant data; evaluate test results; prepare required reports; and perform quality-control testing on laboratory equipment and analyses. You may also calibrate, modify, or repair instrumentation, flow meters, recorders, and other water-quality monitoring equipment.
Additional responsibilities include locating water and wastewater lines, responding to reports of leaks or service interruptions, communicating with residents and businesses about service disruptions, repairing water mains and service connections, and operating construction and power equipment. Because utility emergencies can occur outside regular working hours, you will also participate in a rotational on-call schedule.
Most work is performed outdoors or in the field under varying weather conditions. Safety, sound judgment, technical accuracy, attention to detail, and dependable service are essential every day.
Are You the Water/Wastewater Operator II We're Looking For?
The ideal candidate is an experienced, safety-conscious utility professional who can apply technical knowledge to water and wastewater operations, maintenance, testing, and repair. You should be comfortable evaluating system conditions, identifying operational concerns, interpreting test results, and responding appropriately to utility service issues.
Strong mechanical aptitude, mathematical skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with laboratory procedures, instrumentation, construction equipment, and utility infrastructure will help you succeed in this position. Effective communication skills are also essential, as you will work closely with coworkers, other departments, regulatory agencies, residents, and business owners.
Minimum qualifications include:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three years of experience related to construction, maintenance, or repair
  • Current TCEQ Class C Groundwater Operator License and Class C Wastewater Treatment Operator License
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding fieldwork for extended periods
  • Ability to perform water and wastewater sampling, testing, data collection, and operational recordkeeping
  • Ability to work around mechanical, electrical, chemical, confined-space, and other utility-related hazards
  • Ability to use common hand tools, power tools, motorized vehicles, laboratory equipment, and construction equipment
