Position Summary...What you'll do...Senior Manager, Automation Engineering (Fulfillment Design & Optimization)  Location: Bentonville, AR (25-50% travel) 
  About the Role  The Senior Manager, Automation Engineering plays a critical role in shaping the future of Walmart’s eCommerce fulfillment network. This position is responsible for the design, optimization, and transformation of existing fulfillment facilities, including high-velocity fulfillment centers and legacy buildings with new technologies.  This is a design-focused role that blends strategy, engineering, and execution—driving how current facilities evolve into next-generation automated environments supporting same-day and next-day delivery capabilities.  You will lead automation initiatives using Walmart’s proprietary fulfillment solutions while developing long-term strategies to modernize infrastructure and improve performance across the network. In this role, you will truly innovate and implement solutions which will allow Walmart to scale further and faster.  This is a high visibility role with end-to-end ownership across the project lifecycle. This is an ideal role for someone who can thrive with ambiguity, can influence cross functional teams and able to bring teams together.  About the Team  This role sits within Walmart’s Fulfillment Engineering organization, supporting automation across the eCommerce network. The Legacy & Relay Systems (this team) consists of supporting existing buildings, high-velocity fulfillment, and retrofit strategy.  This team is responsible for owning and optimizing current fulfillment assets, ensuring they evolve to meet future demand. You will work on a lean, high-impact team with plans for continued growth.   
  What You’ll Do 
  • Lead the design and optimization of existing fulfillment centers, including retrofit and upgrade strategies  
  • Develop automation solutions for high-velocity fulfillment and legacy building environments  
  • Create long-term transformation roadmaps to convert current facilities into next-generation fulfillment nodes  
  • Design and integrate systems such as:  
    • Packaging and material handling automation  
    • Automated Mobile Robots (AMRs)  
    • Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS)  
  • Analyze operational and engineering data to identify opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction  
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, product, and engineering teams to ensure seamless implementation  
  • Build and present business cases to justify automation investments  
  • Manage project timelines, risks, and technical execution from concept through deployment  
  • Develop technical documentation including process flows, layouts, and system designs  
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of innovation and engineering excellence  
 
What You’ll Bring  Technical Skills 
  • Experience with automation technologies such as:  
    • Packaging or material handling systems  
    • AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots)  
    • ASRS (Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems)  
  • Strong CAD skills (layout design, system modeling, flow design)  
  • Proficiency in data analysis (Python, SQL, or similar scripting tools)
  • Ability to interpret and create:  
    • Technical specifications  
    • Facility layouts  
    • Process flow diagrams
