Secondary Vocal Music/ Choir Teacher (Full Time)

Position Overview: The Vocal Music/ Choir Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth in secondary students. Key responsibilities include planning and implementing engaging lessons aligned with curriculum standards, assessing student progress, differentiating instruction to meet individual needs, and building strong relationships with students and families. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with a strong understanding of the International Baccalaureate and effective teaching strategies. The Secondary Performing Arts Teacher – Vocal Music leads a MS Choir, and US CHoir and contributes vocal performances to school assemblies and presentations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA or equivalent in Performing Arts, Education, or related field
  • At least five years full-time teaching experience
  • Native-speaker proficiency in target instructional language (English)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master degree in Education (or related field)
  • International and/or independent school experience
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or MYP experience
  • Certification in education and/or related subject area
  • At least three years teaching experience in a Secondary setting
  • Bilingual (or highly proficient) in French or Spanish
  • Demonstrated digital proficiency in current tools and platforms (electronic gradebooks, Learning Management Systems, online learning platforms, digital portfolios, AI assisted technology, etc.)
APPLICANTS SHOULD:
  • Possess excellent teaching skills and pedagogy
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the application of interactive methodologies, technology integration and online learning software and/or platforms
  • Be well versed in current research and best practices in teaching and learning
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding within the classroom and curriculum
  • Effectively teach classes, as allocated, to a mixed-ability classes, drawn from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, including students for whom English may not be their first language
  • Contribute to the development of the curriculum (the production and ongoing review of units and/or long-term plans - including Interdisciplinary units)
THE ROLE: A teacher at The Awty International School is expected to meet the following expectations:
  • Effectively teach Vocal Music amp; Choir, including the undertaking of appropriate lesson preparation and assessing and evaluating students
  • Support the implementation of the IB Middle Years and/or Diploma Programme(s) and execute all program requirements in support of authorization and evaluation
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth and development
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners
  • Assess student learning, use data to adapt learning plans, and provide timely feedback
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively and consistently
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement best practices
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation
  • Incorporate cultural elements into lessons and activities
  • Encourage students to develop empathy and respect for all stakeholders
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and concerns
  • Build strong relationships with parents and involve them in their child's education
  • Organize parent-teacher conferences and other opportunities for parent involvement
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in education
  • Attend and positively contribute to grade, faculty, division and all-school meetings as necessary
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, and other non-instructional times
  • Assist with school-wide initiatives and events including managing the annual school-wide holiday performance and partnering with the Theater director on any plays or musicals as assigned
  • Collaborate with Lower School Music Teachers to ensure vertical alignment and program continuity for choir students
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular school hours; some evening and weekend hours may be required when school is in session
  • Participate in the wider life of the school and be responsible for other duties as assigned such as special projects and presentations, school trips and service learning activities as well as attending curriculum nights, conferences, open houses, and other school and parent events as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
